And rightfully so. Console gaming is pretty much dead and I don't see how console manufacturers can revive console gaming back.

Tablets, smartphones and other portable devices have now stolen a significantly large portion of the gaming market share.

Computer gaming offers superior graphics, modding and physics in the long term. The XBox One and PS4 also have low-end graphics cards compared to high-end computers.

PS4 and Xbox One pre-order sales declining

The pre-order sales for the PS4 and Xbox One next-generation systems are declining. According to a best-selling chart update by Amazon on July 5, the Xbox One Day One Edition has dropped to fifth place. Furthermore, the sales for the PS4 Standard Edition went all the way down to the 17th position. You can check out a set of screenshots from “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,” an open-world role-playing game that is being developed by both platforms, in the slideshow at the top of this article.

The Xbox One Day One Edition has a price tag of $499.99 while the PS4 Standard Edition costs $399.99. Amazon has also created several bundles for Sony’s next-generation console, guaranteeing that the more expensive packages will be available at launch.

Microsoft is planning to ship the Xbox One sometime during the month of November in North America. Sony previously stated that they will be launching the PS4 this holiday season in the same region. You can pre-order the products from Amazon in the following links: PS4 and Xbox One

Do you realize how many millions of systems are already sold though?

This isn't even news, wait I know what it is... a troll.

Source?

I see, you don't have any, "troll".

And that's besides the main point. The Playstation 2 sold nearly 200 million, the PS3 sold 75 million... you see a clear trend and it's not looking good.

Now Gamer offers a slightly different take on the scenario, with numbers from investment advice firm Seeking Alpha, stating that first quarter sales for the PlayStation 4 will be around 1.8 million while the Xbox One will move around 1.1 million in the first quarter based on the units both systems are moving via pre-orders.

The E3 week pre-orders of the two wildly-anticipated gaming consoles brought a year-over-year increase in orders of more than 4,000%, compared to consoles ordered during E3 week last year.

[And] day-one pre-orders for the two consoles was nearly two times that of all video games sales on Black Friday last year (2012)

What trend? The PS2 had a lifespan that stretched from 2000 - 2013. That's 13 years to sell systems. Many of those systems were also sold as duplicates to those who's systems would no longer read disks and were not covered under warranty. It was also significantly cheaper than the PS3 which sold for $600 at release and only recently had models dip to below $299 which was the starting price for the PS2.

Gamestop just soldout of preorders for the ps4,

They also said that they have told Sony that they will buy every PS4 they can produce because the demand is anticipated to be that high.

This is beyond a retarded premise. Consoles are dying but PC gaming is doing well? Now that's funny.

Go ahead and stay on your PC and miss out on the best games. I'll play both and enjoy both and not limit myself because I think I'm cool.

Alright you gave a source. Thanks.

Next time, there's no reason to call someone a troll.

But the trend is clear:

Game Consoles Are Already Dead — And Developers Know It
The long Sony-Nintendo-Xbox war is over. The winner? That phone or tablet in your hand.

There's a reason why less people in my social circle (upper class) are playing console games. They just aren't appealing and are child-like. I'm not joking. Most adults associate console gaming with childhood.

Of course you will have 10 year olds playing console games, that's not what I'm arguing against.

I have no intention to play child-like fantasy games.

I'm betting that it wont sell nearly as much as the previous Playstations.

Rule number one about any kind of debate: No one cares about your anecdotes. You know why? Because they are rendered irrelevant by opposing anecdotes. Neither is any more or less accurate.

"In my social circle (upper-upper class), most adults play console sports games and find them more enjoyable than PC games. I'm not joking"

You see? You've proven and shown nothing, because if my experience is different, neither of us is "right".

P.S. Even if we are to accept your assertion, "MOST" adults are going to view PC gaming as the ultimate nerd, anti-social, virgin shut-in hobby. You see? When you let assumed stereotypes dictate your interests, you're always going to lose. Someone is always going to have a negative opinion of something.
Sorry, but as folks who own and play on both platforms and have for the past 25+ years, your assertions reek of your own childish insecurities and need for validation.

Has nothing to do with tablets (decrease in pre order from when first available) and more to do with normal sales cycle. This really isn't news. Pre order sales will increase from a summer bottom as the arrival draws near.

Yeah, it's dead, look at the stats they all support this

Microsoft:

Mobile gaming is growing fastest, but the market as a whole is growing, including consoles. They can and will coexist. Mobile gaming sucks for the most part, which is why consoles still have a healthy future. Unless/until mobile gaming doesn't suck consoles will continue to exist as they have for decades.

Wow there was a dip in the number of pre-order sales between the big launch/reveal and the release months from now? They are doomed!

Seriously, almost any product experiences a boom of pre-order sales right at the reveal, slows down there afterword, and picks up again as time comes closer to the release.

And you saying the PS2 sold more consoles, yeah well it was also half the price or less depending on when it was bought and which type of PS2 it was, so # of sales =/ amount of $ compared to PS3 sales. I've had my PS3 since launch year with no problems, I got at least 3 PS2s over its lifespan because it broke down a lot.

and I agree that most adults do not see console gaming as childish. If they do, the must see most gaming in general as childish. I can't imagine anyone thinking "Oh man, look at him playing his Xbox what a child! Now look at this guy on his PC, man he's a cool adult."

And no it won't sell as much as previous playstations, they don't expect it to at least not for a long time. Think globally, the PS1 and PS2 have sold all around the world and a lot of poeple will not have access to nor the money to buy a PS3 at launch or even for several years. It's not like anyone releases a 4k HDTV and thinks the whole world is going to replace their old televisions with it.

You need to think more, in general.

Uhh... as far as I know, there has be zero TV/movie advertising for these systems and already pre-orders for the PS4 are done with. And it's July. These consoles don't go on sale for another 4 months!

Dead? Really? This thread should be locked for its blatant sensationalism. :whiste:

There's always a big uptick in sales after big events and then a lull as the excitement winds down. This is a ridiculous thread.

I will say that CoD has created a stigma for console gamers though. It's not necessarily for being childish though, there's another word for it.

I generally think "Man, Xbox player, he must be 12; PC gamer? He must be a virgin." >_>

And of course "PS3 player, he must have tiny hands a a tiny..." >_<

The PC player may be a virgin, but he can at least google what a naked person looks like! ..not that I've ever done that. Sex is bad.

Being gullible for advertising and junk food mongers (buying up all the doritos and soda for xp codes.)? Lol

I will say though the Xbox seems a bit more "kiddy" to me than the Playstation. I was at the bank the other day and this 12 year old boy was going nuts talking about the Xbox One. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it just seems to me the Xbox is more intuitive for a younger audience. Everything from the menu layout, simplicity, and the popular games. And now with the Kinect being bundled it makes it seem more kiddy to me.

Though most the people my age that I know play Xbox. Mostly they play CoD type games or sports game though.

Personally I think I'll get a PS4 - if I do get a nextgen console, which I haven't fully decided on yet. But I definitely won't preorder one. I'll probably wait at least 6 months to a year before getting one. The PS3 seemed to have better exclusives, and games which were more "adult" in their content - like The Last of Us.

I never got into the preordering thing either. I don't see why you'd pay up front for a game that you don't know reviews for, possibly haven't seen gameplay for, or a console you don't yet know a whole lot about. It's not like you even save money. The preorder is $400 for a PS4, or you could just go get one when it releases for $400. But I'll wait a while until more games come out along with reviews and the like
