Does it rumble properly? The X-box controller is great and doesn't need additional setup or twiddling around to make it vibrate.

That's cause as I said...you have to emulate xinput. Only the 360 controller natively supports it. Most devs have abandoned directinput. And as I said above no, it doesn't work.

Considering I was hanging back on buying the PS4 for the time being, just don't want to be disappointed with any annoying software/hardware launch issues. I'll probably be buying the controller ASAP just to play some PC games with it.

In my opinion it isn't worth it for that usage. If you have one or are getting a ps4 its a bonus but it isn't functional enough in every game to be worth buying exclusively as a PC controller.

Oh wait, never mind just looked at the price of it! :whiste: Probably better off with the cheapo PS2 one for now!

Yeah and it is still missing some features.

I tried it out earlier with Electronic Super Frustrating Fun, and I went back to my 360 controller after about a minute. I have no problem with the controller itself -- it just doesn't work that well in Windows out of the box. Since I have a wired 360 controller attached almost all the time, I might as well just keep using that.

I feel it sits better in my hands than the Xbox controller. The whole thing is matte except for the circles that the d-pad and face buttons sit in. The back is textured but it's a very fine texture which made me think it was rubber at first. The sticks have more tension than the PS3 controller for sure and are closer to the Xbox in that way. They are also better textured than the PS3 controller and although my 360 controller is worn down I think they are better textured than those. None of the buttons are squishy and all have a solid end to their movement, even the analog triggers are solid with a good amount of tension and the same solid end to the arc motion. They(the triggers) also have tabs that stick out slightly so you have something to press on, they are also concave now so your fingers can rest on them. The DPad is raised up a bit more than the PS3 controller and is now 8 way instead of just 4 way buttons. It's also more concave allowing perhaps better control for games that would use the dpad. Probably the best thing for me is you have more space between the analog sticks and the d-pad and face buttons than the PS3 controller. Allowing you to not feel so cramped.

I prefer this to my Xbox 360 controller, but my 360 controller has gotten a ton of use over the years on my PC and shows it's age.

edit: Tried Dirt 3 and while you can sorta get it to work by remapping the keyboard to the controller buttons you can't get analog working because it appears Dirt 3 is specifically looking for an Xbox controller and doesn't seem to know I have a different controller that is recognized in windows.

edit2: So I downloaded an xbox360 controller emulator. The game now works fine with the DS4 controller but no vibration functionality at all. That part probably will need special drivers to be written. Oh well.

Damn. It's almost like they put R&D effort into the controller.

If Sony (or anyone else) wrote software so that force feedback and other stuff is better supported in Windows they could move a couple thousand units, I know I'd buy one.

I am sure eventually someone will write proper drivers. It may take time though. Who knows, the xb1 controller may get full support by then.

How comfortable is it compared to the x360 pad? Just curious. I really felt like the x360 pad was far more comfortable than the PS3 gamepad. I might give this a whirl if it's good, though.

The PS4 controller looks great, but staggered analog sticks is something folks either have to have or not. If you have to have it, it makes the PS3/4 controllers a big pill to try and swallow when gaming.

Personally I need the staggered analog sticks, the PS controller just feels wayyyy off to me and the experience becomes frustrating.

So you never played any games before the Xbox? Lol

I am kidding but seriously, you can get used to anything with enough time.

Is it over Windows 7/8/8.1? Or just 8/8.1? From the screenshot it looks like it will only work with 8.

No surprise it works since Sony told us that it would a couple or so months back.

Agreed. I have used tons since the Atari 2600 joystick and I had no trouble playing games that used them. In all honesty for first time PC players, the kb/mouse is actually the harder input device to really get used to. 15 years of using it and I still don't really like it, I like the speed of the mouse at times when observing 3d space however you don't have analogue movement when traversing and you do lack some physical mobility as far as seating position so it's kind of a trade off in some ways.

I accidentally put "just to play PC games with" but I should have wrote "to play PC games with before I buy the console".

I'll be getting a PS4, I just always wait because I don't like being disappointed with launch console issues. So I'm just buying my second controller early is all.

Gotta love the PS2 controller. I should find me a converter hub sometime since I have a few controllers around. The driver hack with the PS3 controller is kinda on the buggy side, and I really dislike the 360 controller.

problem with converter hubs is that it has no vibration. The xbox controller has native rumble support with the controller on the PC, which is nice for a lot of games.

Link? Evidence? Reason for existence? The PS4 uses Bluetooth, and people have had success using the wireless already on windows 8 with generic Bluetooth dongles. There seems to be an issue with keeping connection in windows 7, but that's probably just a matter of time.

would work in a pinch i suppose. I like how the 360 controller is almost universally accepted in most games and you dont have to mess around with the button assignments...AND its wireless

I like the thumb toggles much better on ps4 then 360
