So I'm trying to decide which way to go. I love gaming in 4K now that I have the ability but being able to max out demanding games and run 4k @ 60Hz is not going to happen on my single GTX 1080. Though I can lower some graphic settings to play more demanding games in 4k. Other games I have play at ultra + 4K @ 60 fps no problem but BF1 does not.

So I started tossing around the idea of buying another GTX 1080 but from my past experience with both crossfire and nvidia SLI I have always thought it a waste. over half the games I'd play wouldn't support it or scale properly when it did.

So this upcoming week I'm going to buy another GTX 1080 or a PS4 pro. This is actually a hard decision lol.

If you want true 4k gaming you will need a pc as the "4k" the consoles do is not true 4k obviously given their hardware.

It will depend on the games you play and if you are fine with consoles as they can be great to sit back and play certain games with but for a lot of game types you are going to want a pc unless you are used to games like fps and rpg's on a controller.

But yea I would not go for sli / crossfire these days because of the issues and just lower the settings to medium / high if you want 4k as it should give you near max in most games for 4k at this time.

Yeah that is what i was thinking. Ive never been happy with any sli or cf setup Ive run. I've been in the single good card way of thinking for a long time now.

When it comes to the PS4 pro, yeah I'm fully aware of how the 4k gaming will work on that. Most games will be upscaled to 4K and that's just for the games the devs do it for. I'm okay with that just because it will look better than my current PS4. Plus my current PS4 is hooked up to my 1080P projector and the PS4 Pro would be hooked up to my 55" Samsung 4K TV.

I without a doubt prefer PC gaming over console but I love consoles too. I have a PS4, Xbox One, Wii U and Xbox 360. All of them get used.

I'm thinking the PS4 Pro would be the ticket. Maybe look at the 1080Ti when it releases depending on the gains it will have over the standard 1080.

What about sell your 1080 and buy a Titan X and put it on water? No SLI issues :>

No can do. I don't usually sell my video cards. They trickle down through my other gaming rigs. When I upgrade from a 1080 that 1080 will go into rig 2 and the 980 in that will go into rig 3. I get my money out of these cards for sure.

The Titan X is quite the card though! But I'll wait and see how the 1080Ti performs before I make a decision.

If you don't already have a ps4 I would get a pro. Sony just has so many exclusives coming like Gran Turismo, God of War etc. THis is not even considering the games that will get HDR patches, added detail etc..

So I'm trying to decide which way to go.

Stick to your PC for now. Wait next year to see what MS does with Scorpio. The PS4 Pro is barely 4K @ 30hz with it's checkerboard rendering for AAA games with pretty stuff turned on. This is coming from a PS2, PS3, PS4 guy. The PS4 Pro primary attraction is it's price and value. Buy it with a bundled game that has PS4 Pro patches this holiday and it's a no-brainer purchase for non PS4 owners, don't even bother with the PS4 Slim at that point.

I already bought the PS4 pro this morning. I will judge for myself if it is a better experience than my current PS4. I will not worry about the PC for now as I just have to tweak a few settings to play games at 4K and so far after tweaking away over the weekend I'm not having any issues gaming in 4K. CODIW is playing at 60 fps 4K and looks great! I'll buy a new video card next year sometime, either a 1080Ti or whatever comes later to replace the 10 series.

SLI is a waste anymore. So many games either don't work with it, or run slower when it does work. Not worth the hassle.

I have a PS4 currently but already have the Pro paid for. There's just so many games that I'd miss out on without a console that I have to have one. I don't own an Xbox One but did up until a few months ago. They announced that most of their best games will come to the PC so I decided I didn't really need an Xbox now and would just stick with the PS4 since it still has exclusives I want to play. The additional benefit of 4k scaling and potentially higher frame rates on the PS4 Pro is just a bonus to me.

I feel the same way about the Xbox One. I've been thinking about selling mine too because most good games for the XBone will release on PC which I prefer to game on the PC anyway. I'm going to keep my PS4 though as it is hooked up in my home theater room and it will still get use when I want to play on the 120" screen. The PS4 pro will stay at my desk where my 4k TV can do it justice. I'm looking forward to playing some of my older games on the Pro just to see the difference HDR makes and the higher resolution. I have a few games still in the wrapper too and two of them are being patched for the Pro. Gonna be fun.

Should have bought a Wii U, to get a wider variety of games. PS4 Pro is going to just get you the same games as your PS4, with slightly higher image quality.

Nintendo doesn't have any games I want to play. That's what counts. Variety? Heh...the PS4 has far more variety than the wiiU has.

Sorry, I could have phrased that better- I meant that going from PS4 + PC to PS4 Pro + PC adds less variety than going to PS4 + PC + Wii U. Wii U opens up new possibilities, whereas PS4 Pro improves quality of existing possibilities.

But if you're not interested in Wii U games, then it's a moot point

Ahh I see now lol. Yeah I had a WiiU myself but sold it to buy an XB1 at launch when they reversed all the decisions I didn't like from E3. Anyway I think the WiiU has the worst lineup of any Nintendo console before it. I'd have kept it if this were not the case.

Not sure who your statement is directed to. If me then I already own the Wii U and 360, and One, and PS4 and sold off two PS3's. And I own the PS4 pro now too though I don't pick it up until tomorrow.

Then you seem pretty well covered. Though have you considered a Vita?

lol no. I do not do handheld units. In fact i do not even do mobile games on my phone. All of my gaming is done in the comfort of my home.

I had a PSP years ago. I bought it, grabbed a handful of games for it and then never used it. That is when I discovered that I am not the type to play video games in public and when I'm home why would I play on a handheld when I can be at my PC or on the couch with a console.

I'd go with the PS4. Like you said, SLI isn't always done especially well, and extreme cases even had it causing frame DROPS in the past. That, and how many things are you really seeing struggle on the one 1080? Then, of course, if you look to the 1080Ti later, you'll have what use for the dual-1080s?

I'd greatly lean towards getting the console and enjoying its exclusives. Like we always have the arguments amount to, it's about games more than pixels or frames. So, the question to me becomes: do you care more about having more games to play, or more pixels to barely notice (if at all)?
