PS4 Slim spotted in the wild?

If real, I wonder if it has a hard drive as easy to replace as the current PS4. Also I have to say WTF to Sony, why are they not offering larger hard drives in as many systems? It seems like they have only been offering them in specialty bundles, like the $450+ Black Ops 3 bundle.

If Sony wants to push people toward digital they either need to offer more storage in the unit, or they need to start supporting external drives like Xbox One.

Maybe they will offer 0.5TB, 1TB and 2TB models with the slim without special bundles? I wonder if it will get an extra speed bump, just like the X1S vs X1?

But yea, that 500GB drive on my PS4 is filling up fast. I had to delete stuff several times already...

Yea, honestly I think the only console visually nice was the PS2 (the final revision) and maybe the Wii. The rest are ugly as sin... I also hate the noise their fans make. I wish there was a silent console, even under load.

still only 2 front USB posts and this has no optical port

fail
Why do you need an optical port?

I would be more happy if they upgraded the wireless from N to AC but i am sure the Neo would be the only option for an upgraded component.

pretty much every 7.1 headset needs the optical port to work correctly, also for people who run certain audio setups need it for sound bars and such

I hope they fixed the WiFi on the new ones. I never could get mine to stay connected reliably.

Weird, mine's been working flawlessly since day 1. Bad luck? Bad 2.4GHz spectrum conditions at home (like a microwave)? One thing they should improve is support for 5GHz WiFi for sure...

There's a rumor the regular ps4 will be phased out. If that's true then this console starts to make more sense as the entry level model with the "neo" the top, premium spot.

I have one of the newer revisions, with the matte HDD cover and the physical button for power on and eject. It is not nearly as loud as the launch models. I wear headphones, and I don't notice the noise at all, but even when I take them off I can barely hear it about 3 feet away from my head.

I've heard a launch model under load and it was loud.

I don't see the optical audio port, on the rear next to the HDMI and etc. Also it has a new revised controller and removable HDD.

The original video was deleted but there is another unboxing. I don't think it looks too bad, same matte finish as the PS3 Slim.

No optical output is a pretty terrible move by Sony here. A lot of people are not going to be happy about that. I know I wouldn't as I run a Astro Mix amp for my headset and it requires a connection to optical to function properly. Running an optical out from the TV would not work as my PS4 is wired via HDMI through my AVR and no AVR has optical output. So I would end up having to re-wire my PS4 every time I decided to use the headset. Sometimes I would switch between headset and my HT system over the course of a session.

Sony just rendered most surround headsets useless on their console but I might add they happily function on the Xbox One S because it has optical. So now if my PS4 breaks (assuming the Neo doesn't have optical which I hope to God it does...) I have to hunt down a old model because all the new ones will not work with my headset unless Sony puts in DTS Headphone X processing in the console for all game audio which would let my AVR process the surround info and output it through the headphone port(which isn't going to happen and it doesn't address how I will get chat audio).

It is odd they deleted it, considering the PS3 Super Slim had it. Seeing the photo below, their appears to be an area dedicated for another jack right next to the Ethernet port, looks like they have a multilingual sticker over the area, but I wonder if this will be the same housing as the rumoured 4K model with optical being installed?

that sticker is probably a Warranty Void sticker covering up a screw.

As for the removable hard drive...that's nice and all, but they really need to

1) Start offering larger haddrive options.
2) Allow the use of an external harddrive.

As for the controller, as someone who likes to play in a dark room, and finds light in my peripheral vision distracting, I don't think I would like the light bar on the top of the controller

Removing the HDD is not new. The launch ps4 allowed you to slide off the left panel of the console and reveal the HDD tray.

It's kind of ugly. Man...these redesigns from MS and Sony really don't strike me visually.
I dunno. This new PS4 is really ugly but I actually like of like the look of the new xbox one slim. Just wish they offered it in black. Not a fan of white in my entertainment console.

I know...and I keep hearing people say it's no big deal that they are only 500GB drives, because they are easy to upgrade and that's the first thing you should do.

Why doesn't Sony just offer consoles with bigger hard drives to begin with? They offered 1TB models for a very brief time, and word on the street, was they were in the older, hotter, louder models after the new models came out last summer. Better yet, allow the use of external drives like Xbox One does. Then you can get cheaper, faster, larger 72000RPM external drives.

I guess because you can swap it out is the reason. I mean MS basically has to offer a 1TB console cause you are stuck with whatever drive is inside. I have no other reasoning.

But you aren't stuck with whatever drive is inside. You can use an external HDD with the XBONE.

Uncharted 4 is 44GB. There was a 5GB day 1 patch. If you have the digital version, I am sure Uncharted 4 is taking up over 10% of your 500GB hard drive by now. I'm sure Sony could offer a 1TB model for about $20-$30 more, as opposed to the $55-$60 you will spend to replace it yourself.

I am okay with replacing the HDD myself because there is no way Sony will provide a 1TB version for a $30 premium, they will do it like phone manufacturers and charge at least $100 for something that only costs them $20.

Perhaps. I see a lot of people saying "MS offers it, why not Sony?" not just here but also on other forums. Well as I said Sony dominated sales since the launch 3 years ago. Microsoft for many months was doing poorly sales wise and almost had to offer special 1TB versions to differentiate themselves a bit to increase sales. I know very few people who use external drives on their consoles so for most people the internal is all they will ever have. Sony allows you to put any drive you want as long as it fits and MS does not. Offering 1TB and now 2TB models is their way around this. Especially at the price point they are hitting.
