So I've a budget of 20000INR(320$) and i am confused about buying a ps4 , xbox one or should i just upgrade my pc(which i think is not giving me sufficient performance).
Specs: fx 8320
R9 280x
8gb ram
I don't do online gaming. And if i were to buy a ps4 or xbox one then I'll have to save some money and wait for 2 months.
What should i do?

I'm a PC gammer so I would normally recommend upgrading, however you have a pretty stout mid level gamming rig. Upgrading it to the 290x will wipe your budget for about a 20% increase in FPS.

That seems like a pretty capable gaming PC you have there already. What do you mean by it not giving you sufficient performance?

I agree with dpodblood. It should run any game on 1080p just fine. Sure, it could have a faster CPU and a faster GPU, but what you have is already better than either of the consoles.

What aspects of performance are not adequate? These specs are better than a console. Can you overclock the fx 8320?

You got me all wrong . i am not comparing my pc with consoles, i just love the console exclusive titles. That's why i thought of buying a console .

Sufficient performance as in ultra 60fps
I am not able to play any game of 2014 on ultra with payable framerates. I bought this rig thinking it would last me a year or 2 on ultra.

Does that matter? The main part everybody is responding to is what you said about the PC not giving you sufficient performance.

In that case, both your CPU and GPU need upgrading. The CPU needs to be an overclocked i5-4690K at minimum, 4790K if money is no object. This means a new Z97 motherboard as well. For butter smooth Ultra @60fps, you need dual GPUs, but since almost all of the performance of a second high end card is wasted on 1080p, I think you should just settle for a single GTX 970 (see comparison) and lower settings whenever you need to.

On the other hand, an overclocked FX-8300 with your 280X should be just fine if you lower your image quality requirements. I think you just have to decide if Ultra settings in PC games are worth more to you than getting to play console-exclusive titles.

The FX as always is holding you back. If you want 60FPS Ultra for the next couple of years you need a pair of GPUs + an overclocked hexa core.

Overclocked i7-4790K would be better. Better performance per clock than 3820K, and better OC potential, which means about 15% better performance in <4 threaded games and equal performance in games that take advantage of more than 4 threads. Plus, you get lower power consumption and a backup GPU.

If you want ultra settings and 60FPS than a console isn't the way to go for you because they won't provide either. There are only 2 options: lower the expectations from your PC and run games at high/med settings, or invest in a new CPU and GPU. If console exclusives are important to you well... there's only one way to get them.

But i think I'll go with 4590k as there isn't much difference in performance.

I made my decision i think I'll upgrade my pc right now and will buy a console after a year or so.
Thanks

I think that was the best decision.

And if you are really bent on the console waiting a year or two will benefit you.

The problem both the new gen systems have is they lack titles. The libraries for both consoles should be better in 1-2 years from now.

That's a good idea. The 4690K is certainly better value. Be sure to overclock it to at least match the stock 4790K clock speed.
