Well it seems you have your mind made up due to your prejudices and it has nothing to do with the entertainment provided by the system (or you don't own both or have added a bit of hyperbole). Of course you will give a speech about why you bought the lesser version of multi-platform games because "that's where my 'friends' play" or "I don't like that controller", the rationalization was common last gen and will continue forward this gen. Begs the question why you spent $400 just to play 2-3 hours worth of games in 1.5 months?
And if his opinion doesn't count because he didn't buy his, than I can tell you my use of my purchased PS4 nearly mirrors his. Honestly most peoples should if they have both systems. Having both really ruins it for the PS4.
For starters the Xbox has more top tier exclusives. If tied into the TV will always be on and switching to the PS4 for any application that the Xbone has reasonable counterpart would be pointless. It's power on and usage can be pretty effortless if you are willing or want to feel like Captain Pickard. On top of that I like the Xbone controller more (though the PS4 controller isn't the abortions the previous systems were).
In the end the PS4 needs to beg to be used where the Xbox has to piss you off to not use it. Even for people with only the PS4 if they aren't playing a game and at this point I would assume it's just COD and Battlefield (who bought and opened it at launch) then the PS4 doesn't serve a purpose on. That will change.
But in the long run I will get bored of Madden, I will get bored of Forza. I might go six months without playing a game on the Xbone. It's happened before and it will happen again. I am game system agnostic for the most part and I might find myself going through a Steam back log or watching more TV. Or enjoying a few games on the PS4 and so on. But what I see happening this gen is 6 days a week whether I am playing a game or not the Xbox is on. The PS4 will go through the normal up and downs of interest and game releases as every console goes through.
For many for the PS4 who got one at christmas this is the time before the lul. Same for the Xbone. Spring we might see a decent game or two. Then a large lul till fall. Then a longer lul to late summer early fall 2015. By then we should start seeing enough releases and should be in mid cycle form. The difference being with dual consoles owners. If your bias is towards the PS4 use will be better balanced and both will be used regularly. But for people with an xbox bias, this period with only Knack and Killzone to speak of this one of those dull periods. The Xbone is just better prepared to keep mind-share up during those gaming luls.
