PS4 vs XBOX1 vs My PC

Hey guys,

Quick question for the technically minded.

I have a PC and will probably end up buying both the xbox 1 and ps4.

In the interim I'm trying to decide if I should buy right now or wait till they drop.

Reason being is I have a pretty decent PC and wanted to know the following.

How would my PC -

I have a i975X processor (goodie but oldie), AMD Asus 7970 TOP 3GB card, 12GB 1333mhz ram and an SSD (running at Sata II).

- compare with these new gen gaming systems?

For example, the initial game I will get will be Ghosts.

Will my PC, Xbox or ps4 run this best?

Do we know what my systems teraflops capability is approximately.

Like I said this might be an advanced question for people here but I am curious.

I am aware of the online structure being different on each system. I don't care for this aspect.

Thanks

Why is everyone asking if their pc is more powerful than a ps4 or xbox one? At the end of the day consoles win not in terms of raw processing power and graphics but because games will always be more optimized for them if gaming was your primary reason for purchasing either or all three.

ROFL Ghosts. That would be a rubbish choice. The standard choice would be the current fat bastard, Crysis 3. Just like Crysis 2, its still porky and unoptimized and always wants MORE hardware.

If you can afford to buy all 3, why bother waiting? And the PC will be out of date by the time XBO/PS4 are in full swing, but that's okay because you can just upgrade next year if necessary. And it won't be necessary in all likelihood, unless you are running massive resolution AND 3D or 120Hz.

With consoles you mean downgraded enough in features and detail.

To the OP, your PC will always run it better than any console if the same settings and features are used.

Your PC will trounce XB1 and PS4 for COD Ghosts. XB1 shouldn't even be a consideration since it runs the game at 1280x720 vs. 1920x1080 on PS4, but PS4 still suffers from frame rate drops.

Here is a performance analysis on the PC.

Not all is roses. COD Ghosts for the PC is a horrendous port with graphics barely as good as Black Ops 2 and inconsistent performance even on a GeForce Titan. I wouldn't spend even $5 on the PC version given the effort that was put into the port. Can't support rewarding such mediocrity being thrown at PC gamers.

Ok so computer will trounce the consoles. Cool thanks. So I will stick to buying PC versions where it's an option.

Only problem is the post before this - so even though my PC is more powerful, Ghosts will probably run worse?

Sort of changes the whole thing.

PC versions are also cheaper. Since consoles games as far as I am aware is 70$ for the 2 new consoles. Rendering the cheap innitial buy for consoles even more useless.

You are looking at it one-sided because minus extra detail and extra frame rate a pc has nothing else going for it in terms of gaming. Consoles gets the most games and they will most likely be first pick when receiving certain games eg. nfs rivals which was bumped up 4 days for the ps4 release. Personally I would take eye candy and fps over everything thing else but like I said its just half of the equation and console graphics is more than good enough for alot of people out there.

Anyone with a 7950 or higher with a mid-range chip will be at or above the new counsels. If Mantle works a 7870 with a lower end chip would be on par with the PS4. The key going forward is having a GCN based GPU as thats what counsel games will be based around.

Ghosts will still run smoother and have better graphics on the PC. However, as far as bugs and glitches, I am not sure.

Based on BF4 face-off, your system should outperform PS4/XB1 in cross-platform titles in the foreseeable future. I presume you'll be upgrading the GPU at some point too which means your PC will only get better with time. For me the main allure for console are their exclusive franchises such as Uncharted, the Last of Us, etc.

Crysis 2 is not all that unoptimized either and runs at really high framerates on the very highest settings with any decent card. I just fired it up and was getting in the 70s and 80s and most spots.

and lol if you think Crysis 3 is not decently optimized. nothing even comes close to its visuals and the game can be run on very high settings with SMAA at 1080 getting 60 fps with a 680 or 770. the only issue in Crysis 3 is that its cpu intensive in a few spots.

if you crank the real AA then of course framerates drop but that goes for any game.

Is that Crysis 2 with the texture packs and DirectX 11 patch?

Not in USD. They are $59.99 like last gen in the states.

I got the chance to play Forza in the Microsoft store on Xbox One which is supposedly their best looking game and it's not that impressive tbh. Console games lack so much detail and everything looks bland. That said I see myself buying a PS4 for sports titles.

I'm not familiar with the power of the new XBOX One and the Playstation 4. How do these 2 consoles compare to my old outdated system?
