PS4 & XBox One versions of Tomb Raider get TressFX

Since PC gamers get console ports, anything they throw into consoles will find its way into PC ports. So I think this is a good development for everybody.

Yeah this was *really* surprising given how badly the PC version of tressfx runs...

It's called optimisation. Much easier to optimise TressFX in the game for console specs because they are static.

If the consoles are capable of handling TressFX, I wonder whether we will see more use of it?

well I think they are capable of doing TressFX for the same reason the PC was, it's an Xbox 360 title, and they are not going to improve the game much apart from resolution, so why not use the extra resources for TressFX?

you can definitely play the game with TressFX on with midrange cards, as long as you don't use more aggressive AA and other stuff

also the console target is normally 30FPS.

Really? Because it looks like it has more of a future than other GPU using "technologies" since it can work on consoles too, especially as it gets extended to other things beyond hair.

Everything got posibilities. It just doesnt mean it becomes anything. And so far TressFX is (still) a Tomb Raider only thing as far as I know. And no announce of anything to change that.

4 years ago OpenCL was the big dog and we would have OpenCL physics with Havok, Bullet and Pixelux. Never happend.

4 years ago we were still stuck on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

TressFX is possible through the graphics API. It can work on any system which is compatible with DX11 (and i guess OpenGL 4.3).

It may not be the biggest selling point but technologies to improve hair and fur realism are very welcomed!

Already finished it on pc on ultra settings. Excellent game but I would not get it for ps4. I'll install and play it again on pc if I wanted to.

That's where we differ ---- I'm for over-all technologies that try to raise the bar -- doesn't have to be specifically cross-platform!

It doesn't have to be, if it's for a PC genre like RTS games. But if it's for other games, then cross platform means it might have a chance of becoming widespread.

Actually I'd be really surprised if it's not in many Mantle optimized games, given it's compute shader base. Mass Effect 4 female characters should be a strong candidate.

Yea, me too... Got used to that new Lara, no idea why they changed here again :/

Anyway, nice one for people who didn't play the game yet and own or will own a PS4/X1? The game is really enjoyable and well worth the asking price.
