PSA: Do not make a left turn in an intersection if you don't have the right of way

If I'm going 35 mph and already in the intersection and you're going in the opposite direction trying to make a left turn at 35 mph before me, please FFS don't do it. (4 lane, 2 both ways). That is all.

That's exactly how someone t-boned me 4 years ago, except that it was 3 lanes each way. What a pain in the ass that was.

I had a close call similar to this, lady thought 'green light' = 'green arrow' and I missed her by a few feet.

Wha tpissed me off the most though was that when I laid on my horn indicating to get the fuck out of my way of you will be plowed she slammed on the brakes instead of speeding up to get out of the way. So not only did she almost get herself t-boned at 40mph by not paying attention she decided to slow down into the path of an oncoming car like an idiot.

Maybe next time she'll put the phone down.

You know they don't teach anything like evasive maneuvers in drivers ed.

I think evasive driving classes should be mandatory to get a license. Not only would they be useful, but the classes would be really fun.

They need to take it every 2 years in Memphis. Drive through Memphis and see for yourself. I have family that lives out of state and never ever ever do I see driving anywhere close to as bad as it is here.

Not being sexist but pretty much every bad driver I have noticed is a woman.

Women talking on their phones, doing other shit. In lala diva land. I don't know. Any SUV with a woman behind the wheel seems to be a recipe for disaster.

Trust me when I say that Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi could all give Memphis a run for its money. There are many things I've come to love about living (albeit likely temporarily) in Louisiana...the drivers are not one of them.

Trust me when I say that Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi could all give Memphis a run for its money. There are many things I've come to love about living (albeit likely temporarily) in Louisiana...the drivers are not one of them.

I hate to break it to you, but nobody comes close except for maybe NY City. I have had friends from Louisiana visit and comment about how bad it is here. I work with people from Mississippi and they say how bad it is here. My mom lived in Alabama for 5 years or so and she says it is worse here. Spend a day here and you will see just how bad drivers are.

I have driven through Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Illinois, etc and NOBODY comes close to the horrid drivers of Memphis. I have only heard that NY City is worse and that Houston is right behind us. Yes, it is this bad here. You either drive crazy or get run off the road.

I hate doing left turns when there's no advance green. I try to avoid it as much as I can. If it's just 1 lane both ways it's not so bad, just need to wait till someone else needs to do a left then both can go at once, but if it's 2 lanes or more, if someone is in the middle lane waiting to do a left you can't really see if there's someone coming in the other lane who will just go straight, and if you don't make the move fast enough then people behind get all upset and start beeping. I've learned to just ignore people behind me in situations like that. My safety comes before their hurryness. They should have left 10 minutes early to go wherever it is they're going that's so important to them.

The worse is making any turn on a T intersection where the long part of the T is coming up a hill. With the snow banks it's near impossible to see if a car is coming. I avoid those in the day, you pretty much have to "sense" that there's no cars coming, and boot it. At night you can go by headlights and hope nobody is driving with two burnt ones (I hate when people do that). Its best to avoid dangerous intersections altogether really.

I also like the cars that intentionally slow down to make sure they're the last car that can turn left before the light turns red.

This. The guy got a ticket and later appealed it. The cops told me that if I didn't show up they wouldn't have as much of a case or something like that; long story short I went and he didn't, ticket stays. I think that meant he got hit with some extra fine or what not, don't really remember.
