PSA for iTunes users: Download the Multi-Plugin for iTunes

If you're a fan of the iTunes interface, you should definitely check this out.

First, download the latest version of foobar2000.

Next, download the multi-plugin for iTunes (check edits for links).

Under Edit / Preferences, you can enable Foobar2000 passthrough, which uses foobar2000's superior output engine for playback. Seems totally seemless so far, and the sound quality is far superior to iTunes.

Highly recommended!

iTunes 6 users can still get version 2.3.

I was able to notice a difference with my Klipsch 2.1 speakers and a nVidia Soundstorm audio chip.

Using this was a pleasant surprise Didn't expect any difference, but it is noticeable with just ordinary audio (onboard+kenwood headset).

I believe foobar has the ability to use kernel streaming, which bypasses the windows mixer. Supposedly this increases sound quality. I have not tested it myself, so I can't render any judgement.

I thought that iTunes allowed syncing with Outlook by default.

Goose, maybe convert your apple lossless to flac? As for the DRM'd aac, you could burn it to a virtual CD and rip from there.

As far as the post mentioning kernel streaming - this isn't on by default. If using this foobar passthrough sounds better, that's not why, unless you set up kernel streaming in foobar manually.

I tried the foo_alac and it fails to load the dll


anyone have any ideas?

I have a LOT of lossless and it needs to remain in the ALAC because of my ipod

<--doesn't want to use foo_pod


edit: Kernal streaming did make a difference for mp3s, but I am not sure how yet. If anything, it just raised the volume.....

Not great by any means but definitely "sufficient" for blasting Ravel's 'Bolero at full volume....or some 'a tribe called' quest' at even louder volmes

I removed all the drm from my stuff when I went to linux. Now I use sharpmusique to buy all my itunes songs so I dont have to deal with the drm (there is suposidly a windows version of that). I dont feel thats breaking the law as I dont share my music. I really wish apple would release itunes for linux. If they did I would most likley deal with the drm.

hmm... just installed foobar and the plugin and when i try to enable foobar2000 passthrough, it says foobar isnt installed and wont work. T_T!
