In CA, the law prohibiting cell phone use without a hands-free device is going into effect next week, but the fine is $20 for a first offense and $50 after that. But for some reason it's still legal to send text messages while driving.

I don't think dumb has anything to do with it.

It is an honest to goodness memo that came home with the SO at 3AM. I read it and thought I would pass it on. I never in a million years thought that it would be a fake, considering where i got it. ...

Sure, payback is great...

but i dont think anyone was trying to fool anyone. I really believe that the dispatchers at his work believe this to be true also. Unless they are just putting this out to make their drivers slow down to conserve fuel. hahaha. In that case, I would love to get them back.

I was reading through that Snopes thread and that got me thinking about who originates these things.. The memo was copied from the email, and people will blindly spread it, but at the top there is someone pushing an agenda. I would think this one would be started by someone in a state / government job trying to scare people into following the law. It seems weird to spam people with stuff like this, trying to trick them into behaving how you want them to.

Weird thing is.... living in NJ for the past 8+ years, I was not skeptical because it sounds just like something the state would do. I read the stuff our politicans are pushing thru the senate and legislature and it scares the hell out of me becuase I know they will have to find a way to bleed us to pay for it.

so, reading that they will pound us on not have documents to the tune of $519 was not something I would have put passed them.

Seems more likely to me that it's someone who's just pissed off at the police, and something like this, especially the bit about the "every 10 to 20 minutes" quota, would just drum up animosity towards police.

I don't see what the fuzz is about the memo. It's just common sense no? You break the law, you get pulled over and issued a ticket. Then you come on ATOT and bitch about getting pulled over even though you were going w/ the flow of traffic, and proceed to calling all the cops pigs.

Anand estimates that 9 million dollars in employees hours will be saved for employers while the neffers are on lock down.

Don't forget the requests for info on how to get out of it. You know, the ones who admit they did it but don't want to take responsibility and seek help in beating the charges.

The top speed on the rigs is controlled by headquarters with the big trucking outfits.

Most have dialed back top speed from 70 to 65 to conserve fuel.
