yeah, don't drive in. bart is running longer, more frequent trains.

They're upping everything from ferry service to Caltrain runs. Anyone going near that city with a car this weekend is certifiable.

so when are we digging up that oil near the Colorado rockies?

You know what's crap? My wife's Sonata gets EPA ratings of 28/35mpg but real numbers around town it only gets 18mpg. My big heavy SUV gets like 14mpg. It doesn't really make much of a difference, does it?

One of my employees came in late to work today because she had to wait 40 minutes for gas at Costco. I'm just gonna ride my bike everyday now.

That's because your wife drives that Sonata like it's a Genesis Coupe.

I stopped reading as soon as I read Prius. Hipsters have no credibility whatsoever.

$5/gal? Been like that here for ages and we don't even have a shortage. Doesn't stop people from driving giant SUVs and pickups as commuter vehicles. Gas is very heavily taxed here though. 30% IIRC once you factor in gas tax, excise tax, and sales tax.

I wouldn't even want to go to Costco gas on a Saturday to fill up, especially at a time like this. The lines will be crazy.

Costco gas ain't all that.

You can oftentimes find better gas prices by looking through Gasbuddy.com.

Funny thing with Costco lines is that they will go OUT OF THEIR WAY to save a couple of pennies and stand in line for 45 minutes while leaving the ignition on.

Talk about being penny smart, and pound foolish.

That is why I hit up Costco either early AM before the store opens or late in the evening after the store closes. You get over there at 8am on a Sunday no waiting in line for gas. Just checked around any my local Costco is about 6 cents cheaper per gallon than anyone else on Gasbuddy in the surrounding area.

Short supplies keep gas prices rising in Calif

California gas prices continued surging Friday, adding another 17 cents per gallon on average, and the increases are expected to continue for at least several more days, ensuring long lines and short tempers at pumps around the state.

A week of soaring costs has led some stations to close and others to charge record prices — in some places $5 or more — as California leapfrogged Hawaii as the state with the most expensive fuel. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded across California was nearly $4.49 on Friday, 32 cents more than a week ago and the highest statewide average in the nation, according to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge report.

The California Air Resources Board was reviewing a request from the California Independent Oil Marketers Association for a waiver that would allow gas stations to begin selling winter-blend gasoline before Halloween.

David Clegern, a spokesman for the air board, said the California Energy Commission would have to review gas inventories to confirm there is a shortage and assess what effect the switch would have on air quality.

ApRoberts said Friday that the commission has determined that the state has plenty of gasoline to meet consumer demand.

That would burn about 3 pints of gas in my Jeep.

Leaving the ignition on isn't any big deal...and doesn't use any gasoline...as long as the engine isn't running...:whiste:

I said it before and I'll say it again. I hope gas goes past $5 well into the 7 or 8 dollar range.

If you drive there and leave the ignition on...
Just leaving the ignition on isn't an issue...as long as you don't leave the engine running...there IS a difference.

But I AM just nit-picking...

Californians should build some refineries. I heard that there was oil in the bay there and they just will not drill or pump it.

Using my Amex Costco card I paid 3.80 a gallon today compared to cheapest Non-Costco at 4.50 a gallon.

That is a 70 cent saving per gallon, at 16 gallons I saved about 11 bucks.

That savings cost me only 20 minutes of my time.

Take a look at the regulations Cali puts on refineries and then tell me it's all related to collusion. The companies are asking Cali regulators to let them bring in fuel from other states (which is not allowed by Cali regs) in order to get through the shortage. But, hey, keep on believing it's always the evil corporation's fault.

http://video.cnbc.com/gallery/?video=3000120604&play=1

Everyone wants more regs, more regs, more regs, then when something happens and the regs are part of the problem, it's still the Corporations being greedy.

Why is it that these companies see record profits but seemingly fail to invest in their own infrastructure to prevent all of these failures and breakages?

Blaming regulations is scapegoating. Companies want the money that comes from this business, so they should be prepared for the investments required.

Too much demand even today. We actually need prices to go higher. Push innovation and economies.
