ok, so i'm fast-walking through a public trail and this old lady approaches from the opposite direction with not one, but TWO, big doggies...both unleashed!!

my mind has a tendency to scope and assess the situation like in Terminator 2 when he went to that bar in the beginning. anyway my first thought was what would i do if they barked or tried to assault me? should i kick them, run, do a flying nelson, or choke it to death?

well, they went by without any trouble. lucky for the lady and dogs. i was tempted to tell her to leash them before i called the paramedics.

what would ATOT have done?

I've never owned a dog and I don't ever visit our public parks, so I didn't know. If there were leash laws then I would have simply used my cell phone to report the lady to... whoever it is that you report these things to.

Maybe if you are terrified of puppies you should stay out of the off-leash parks?

depends on the park. most are leash only but some are dog parks and they are allowed off.

I keep my dogs on a leash (except for my back yard). you never know what will set a animal off and i don't want to pay for some idiots bills.

Fausto, your allegations hurt me. i have a bad knee now and cannot run or jog. walking fast helps burn calories faster. i am trying to lose 10lbs. there is an HF thread if u dont believe me.

I'm sure it's at least loosely rooted in fact. You probably encountered a stray poodle or something and it gave you the idea for this thread.

As for why, that's your problem. I have never really understood the mindset of a serial internet troll.

I would have let my off leash dog play with her off leash dog. Grow a sack, OP, they're fucking dogs.

I would have greeted the lady. If the dogs showed any interest in greeting me, I would have knelt down, and extended my arm slowly at a level underneath the dog's nose with my palm down and fingers slightly extended. This would provide a a non-threatening gesture that would allow the dog to smell me and identify me.

Off leash dogs do annoy me when it's not in a dog park. Yesterday, a dog ran up to my bike trailer and started barking at my 9 month old daughter. It scared her and the owner from their house across the street yelled at the dog to get back over there. Not a huge deal, but it still pissed me off a tiny bit.

The law supports responsible pet ownership and allows others to feel safe from aggressive dogs while in public places. The leash law requires all dogs to be on a leash, with only two exceptions.

Dogs that receive an American Kennel Club “Canine Good Citizen” certificate or its approved equivalent can be off leash.

A dog fitted with an electronic collar can be off leash.

Many parks do not have leash laws. They just state that you should be able to control your pet.
