Hay SandEagle you should have called the police that would have shown that old lady!

I never cared much about unleashed dogs until I had a child. It makes me rage when I take a walk with my 4yr old and frequently have to deal with total stranger dogs coming up to say hi.

It's just as bad as when people have those invisible fences *WITH NO SIGN* holding back a dog as you walk by that is just going absolutely ape shit barking at you.

For the love of dog, please keep your kids on leash.

Yeah, those kids are dangerous. You never know when one is gonna go nuts and bite your dogs face off.

You should have been familiar with the park rules when you first entered the park. Sounds like it may have been an off leash park and you should have picked another place to walk if you don't like dogs.

Or rather run up directly nose to nose with your dog, shrieking at the top of their lungs, and grabbing at the dog's ears, so that your dog startles and snaps and then gets put down for being vicious.

People who don't teach their children dog manners are taking the risk on themselves of their kids getting bitten.

True. And people who don't leash their dogs outside of off-leash parks are taking the risk on themselves of their dogs being killed.

Agreed, whether that's by car, or other dog, or scared person who reacts to their dog.

I know very few dog owners that do not know the rules of the parks they take their pets to, which is more than I can say for the OP.

OP, post the park name so we can look up the rules and see if the dog owner deserves blame or if you deserve ridicule for mentally overreacting (kicking them for barking?)

Please remember to always have your children spayed or neutered. It helps control the feral population and makes for better behaved children.

The problem is most off-leash parks require the dog to be under voice control...most don't have that down. Their dog goes ballistic and they came "oh he never does that" or worse "well that's what dogs do, you startled him!".

Only bad dogs are unpredictable and they are only bad about 99.9999% the time due to bad owners who don't take the time to properly train/socialize them.

I wouldn't have said anything. After seeing the dogs my hand would have been on my knife, and if they did anything that could be vaguely construed as threatening, the knife would be out. Otherwise, I don't really care.

Not big. I think it has a 3.5" blade. It's a Cold Steel Mini Culloden. A modern take on the Scottish sgian dubh.

It's a crime to 'brandish' a knife in many places.

If you are fearful, I'd stick to Fox 5.3 or a comparable.

If you get involved in shit, it's not such a major event as pulling a knife or gun or even a club causes you with police.

ok, so i'm fast-walking through a public trail and this old lady approaches from the opposite direction with not one, but TWO, big doggies...both unleashed!!

my mind has a tendency to scope and assess the situation like in Terminator 2 when he went to that bar in the beginning. anyway my first thought was what would i do if they barked or tried to assault me? should i kick them, run, do a flying nelson, or choke it to death?

well, they went by without any trouble. lucky for the lady and dogs. i was tempted to tell her to leash them before i called the paramedics.

what would ATOT have done?

Open fire.

First, you seem to be rather scared of everything. Looking back at your past recent posts, sure seems that way. How do you function in life being frightened of everything you encounter? Believe it or not, not everything is out to assault you.

But about the bolded part....call the paramedics because two dogs scared you? Did you have a heart attack? Sand get in your twat? Grow a set and man up.....geeeeez.

To me, it depends on the dog. If I see someone walking with a pit or rot unleashed I might just be ready to stab the dog. But most people who take their dogs out for a walk without a leash know that said dogs wont freak out and take off. My mom has a german sheperd that follows her around outside and never takes off even when other dogs come up the street. But the other dog would bolt if you gave her the chance so that dog was on a leash when outside.
