yup I for one would buy a large amount of fine scotch and keep it in casks for the next 30-50 years and re-sell it later at a premium. scotch will never go out of style

I'm sure there's some 1970s lottery winner out there with a warehouse full of Ripple and Thunderbird.

Why the fuck would a $500 million jackpot encourage you to buy a ticket more than a $100 million jackpot?

Either one is going to completely fucking change your life.

Only poor people think $100 million is real money.

Are you a poor person, TallBill?

It has reached the point where purchasing every possible number combination (spending about $176 million in tickets) would more than double your money overnight (taking into the cash value after taxes).

People started a pool in the office I'm at. The last few people who bought into it did so because they didn't want to show up one day with everyone else gone : )

So now I need to find a bank that will give me a loan for $176M. Reason? To play the lottery.

That assumes no one else wins. One other person and you break even. Two others and you're in a world of hurt. Not to mention the logistical horrors of actually trying to buy out every ticket.

Right. Others hitting is a huge problem. and Manually filling out lottery play slips for each number combination is something that you would need to have started a very long time ago. And who knows how many tickets a single machine can even print per day.

I remember reading a story many years ago where a group of people did this with a smaller state lottery. Perfectly legal, but you have to find the ticket and present it. The other bonuses are the 40-something 250k hits you also get because you have every combo possible.

It'd take a team of people and a lot of organization. I've read stories about a company trying, but trying to recheck the veracity of them I'm having a hard time finding information.

I remember that was an episode of 'Gun'. Where a small group of people set out to buy out every single combination but they came up short when the lady in the group who liked a set of numbers (5/10/15/20/25...) got robbed by someone with a 'Gun' and the ticket was lost.

FYI if Jeeebus doesn't post on on ATOT on Monday, it's because he's fucking rich and no longer needs you peasants to entertain him.

Buying lottery tickets is always a bad idea.

Generally because of the odds; and even if the odds are technically 'in your favor' because of previous lotteries not being claimed and added to the jackpot, the fact that the odds are so low still as a practical issue are throwing away money. We shouldn't even have legal lotteries - the ticket companies lobbied for them to make money.

If you found the winning jackpot ticket on the ground you would throw it away based on principle eh?

I forgot I bought the multiplier too, which means I won $21. Given that I just spent $2 might as well "reinvest" right?

you'd have to have a fast machine to spit out ~1000 picks a second for 48 hours straight to be able to play every number combo. I wonder how much playing 176 million would raise the jackpot.

We had viedo poker and all the "horror" stories because of it. Yes, there were some pretty crappy examples, families getting shitted. We, SC, voted them out. A few years later, the lottery $$ allure popped up and here we go........

Just recently, I'm seeing video machines/players loitering at quick shops...internet loop hole...now we have both again.

Yes, I've paid my stupid tax 5 times since SC has had a lottery and will for 6, I imagine.

Hi, Craig.
