Can you even get the jackpot with the $1 ticket? I thought you had to have the multiplier?

I don't believe the multiplier is required.

15. What is the Megaplier?

Some states use a Megaplier feature in which players can increase non-jackpot prize winnings by 2, 3, or 4 times. In a participating state, you can play the Megaplier for an extra $1. The Megaplier number is chosen from a field of 21 numbers. Any non-jackpot prize won on a Mega Millions play will be multiplied by the Megaplier number drawn if you have purchased the Megaplier feature. For example, if you win $250,000 on Mega Millions and the Megaplier number drawn is 4, you would win $1,000,000 ($250,000 x 4) if you purchased the Megaplier feature. To find out if your state participates, and to find what out Megaplier results, visit the lottery web site in the state in which you bought the ticket.

if I won first thing I would do is piss my self. Then I'd by a mountain of cocaine and hookers and not leave my house for a month. Then I'd invest wisely.

I think hes confusing it with PowerBall which changed to $2 tickets in Jan.

MegaMillions is reportedly considering changing to $2 tickets in the future.

I'm going to buy 10 tickets with those numbers tonight. If you win, you'll only get 9% of the money!

And, I'll buy a 2,3,4,5,6,7 because no one plays those numbers; but hundreds (or thousands) play 1,2,3,4,5,6
Sorry doc. 1 number. I'll post my new numbers tomorrow if I get some.

They are?

This.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't powerball have higher non-jackpot payouts?

Honestly I don't care either way as I have spent <$25 in my life on lotteries, so I haven't really ever looked into odds and payouts. Just was thinking that powerball had better payouts and stuff (outside of the jackpot). If I'm wrong so be it.

PS: I realize I'm not taking odds of winning into account

i was trying to figure out what % is paid out as prize money from each (i'm guessing it's near identical), but it's quite not so simple:
Since the two games' jackpots are invested differently, if the CASH jackpots are the same, the Powerball jackpot will pay a larger ANNUITY over time than Mega Millions. If the ANNUITY value of the jackpots are the same, then Mega Millions' CASH jackpot will be larger than Powerball's CASH jackpot. The CASH jackpot amounts present the true present-day values of the jackpots. A winner who wishes to take the CASH jackpot should compare only the CASH jackpot amounts. The ANNUITY jackpot amounts will be important for those winners who plan to select a long-term, fully guaranteed income stream.
so powerball can advertise a bigger jackpot when the cash value is the same.

PB / MM Payouts

5 + 1 = Jackpot
5 = $1M / $250K
4 + 1 = $10K / $10K
4 = $100 / $150
3 +1 = $100 / $150
3 = $7 / $7
2 + 1 = $7 / $10
1 +1 = $4 / $3
1 = $4 / $2

So PowerBall pays out better at the high and lower end. MegaMillions is better in the middle.

Isn't a PowerBall ticket 2$? Mega is only 1$.

I dropped another $2 on it today. I'll donate all the money to PBS and NPR, and make them put down "this program is brought to you with contribution from Baked" for every program they broadcast. Fuck yeah!

I think when the pot gets huge people get a little dumb.

I'm surprised nobody at the office has started a pot as they usually do when it gets past 200m. I'd just assume get 40-50 tickets for something w\ better odds.
