I love my Swan M200 I got for $200 and a Velodyne 10" Subwoofer for $160.
I bought my gf a set of Klipsch 2.1 from ebay for $50 a few years ago and first set them up next to my swans for a comparison. While the Klipsch sounds good at low volume, at medium or higher volumes, the sound is thin and weak sounding in comparison.

The $125 amplified bookshelf speakers they have now seems like a pretty kickass deal.

I think I'll get a set of Swans.. I don't really need them, but....

You're not the only one

If you count a t-amp as a "receiver" I guess

My work system is a Gen-1 Sonic Impact T-amp (gift from Kaido) powering a pair of AV123 X-LS Classics in White Shadow Maple.

At home, I how have my computer in a different room than my Home Theater, so I had to get something else. On the bright side for me, my sister is currently spending a year in England, so she didn't want to bring her Swan M200s there, so I've been using them.

I'm happy with the value I've gotten from both systems.

Haha I have the same speakers.

X-LS Classics driven by some old Sony Stereo receiver I found on craigslist for $20. SA-EX110? Unfortunately some drunk retard poked the tweeter on the left speaker. :/

Too lazy to resize:

When I had a receiver I had it hooked up to my computer. Now I just have Infinity Primus bookshelf speakers hooked up to a DIY Tripath stereo amp.

I have had the Altec Lansing 641 setup since '02 and i've been extremely pleased with them. 4 satellites and 1 subwoofer that has PLENTY of power. They may not be the top of the line but they are definitely great sounding and well worth the price paid.

Disclaimer: I live in a townhome apartment, so I am limited in terms of how much noise I can make without disturbing the people on the other side of each wall...not to mention my fiancée if she's upstairs or simply not interested in what I'm watching / listening to.

I have my primary living room TV hooked up to a set of Logitech Z-323 2.1 speakers. These things are 30W RMS and cost about $50 originally. If memory serves, I bought them in 2010. They still work just like new.

I haven't even come close to maxing them out. I have the volume knob set to about 40%. With that setting, if I were to turn my TV up to 50% volume, I would definitely get someone knocking on my door, asking me to turn them down. It has happened before.

I also haven't even come close to a point at which they sound weird or distorted. The biggest problem I have is striking a balance between turning the volume loud enough so I can hear dialogue over my very noisy high-efficiency furnace (which is right next to the living room...grr) and not disturbing my neighbors. I swear it sounds like a jet engine going through my apartment when the furnace kicks on.

Of course, power isn't everything. But I don't feel like I have given up a great deal in terms of sound quality with the Z-323 speakers since I couldn't get away with listening to a legitimate home theater system at anything close to full volume anyway given my housing situation. Music sounds decent (but not stellar) on these speakers as well.

For my application, they're good enough and then some. I do wonder, though, if having some rear speakers would help me get past the furnace noise problem without having to turn the volume up as much.
