Wrong forum.

Software has always been the reason I've hated Apple's products. They can make some gorgeous hardware, but their software is awful and pretty much unusable as far as I'm concerned, so no real surprise here.

You're like that monkey that will not let go of that shiny bauble.

Let me explain it to you, sorry I left my finger puppets at home. If you know anything about developing software or apps, you probably know that the first and most important rule is to make sure the product work as intended, like someone said, the user experience. If I search for London and I'm sitting in the middle of America, how does the software know what I'm looking for exactly?

My kid likes to type in random places in Maps to learn where they are, a sort of educational tool, so giving wrong or limited geographical data will confuse the end user. The simplest solution to give multiple results and asking which London you're looking for.

But you're too fucking stupid to realize that the software is incomplete and sloppy. That or you're one of those jackass apple fanboys.

I'm actually not an Apple fanboy and going Andriod in the near future. So, you're one of those dumbasses that's expecting London, England if you just type in London? Looks like its a good teaching moment for you and your son that there is more than one London. And yes, Apple did not give a wrong answer. But good luck telling your son that Buckingham Palace is not located where it shows on Google. Dumbass.

I just find if funny how all the Apple haters think Apple fanboys are worse than them. Not even close.

learn to completely read the post before making idiotic comments. Apple are not giving wrong geographical data in their new maps hmm? So why are people making threads about said topic.

Fanboy or haters of apple product, it doesn't matter, what I find amusing is when people have every right to critic an unfinished and sloppy product, the fanboys get all defensive and up in arms over it like they personally got butthurt over it because they get a hard on every time they hear the word "steve jobs".

Except querying for "London" in North America and getting "London, ON" is not wrong.

I hate Apple, but this is stupid.

Wow. Why are there comments about the NEW Apple Maps app? Maybe, b/c it's new. If you google, Google Maps errors/blunders, you'll find similar stuff. Did you see the links in this thread to where Google currently places the Washington Monument? Haters have to hate.

Like I said Andriod Fanboys are worse than Apple fans. People like you give Android a bad name. Basically, you get owned and now need to make fun of Apple fans.

No where did I say it was wrong. But it's pretty damn counter intuitive if people are not actually searching for London, ON.

Heh. I did a search for "Mongolia", a mongolian grill restaurant in my town and it sent me to the actual country Mongolia. Please explain Apple's rational (or rather your idiotic rational) for that.

It's the closest London in North America. Logical it returns that one as opposed to the one crossing the ocean. You call it improper programming, I call it logic. Do iphone users have to pay extra to use Apple Maps? I don't know, I am thinking it came with the phone.

It's called proper programming. The question of people's stupidity is besides the point, it's about the quality of service from a product people paid for. Dumbass.

Seriously, people are complaining about "London" returning London, Ontario, rather than London, England? Well guess what, you morons, if you want to search for the London NOT in this continent, how about you learn how to refine your fucking searches.

Those complaints are from users in the UK and Europe, they have every right to complain. US and Canada fair much better, but the rest of the world has gone back years in regards to map quality. At this rate Google's new map app approval cannot come soon enough.

What's wrong with the picture? That sure looks like the Washington Monument.

No it doesn't, Apple placed it on a street median between Independence Ave SW and Maine Ave SW, roughly 2 footballs fields away. If you were in a car and were a tourist here for the first time, it'd be a little confusing if you were looking right at this on your phone. Whereas Google Maps correctly maps it to its official address (http://www.visitingdc.com/memorial/washington-monument-address.htm) where the buses unload and you could drop someone off right in front of it. As any mapping app should be doing.

This represents an example of smart system design logic vs rushed and shitty system/GIS design logic. I don't doubt that google's superior search engine integration has something to do with this discrepancy. While it might be a picky example, it highlights the logic difference and it would be a huge deal if it was someone's home address (and not a 50 story monument you can see from a mile away).

Hopefully Apple will reconsider Google Maps app to be installed on the new release, at least give us the option of staying with G-Maps app. For example, if Microsoft permanently blocked Google to promote Bing, that would be enough for me to switch to a new OS. Nobody likes censorship and everyone simply wants the best tool for the job. For example, G-Maps also accurately shows traffic congestion on the fly which is extremely helpful and accurate (red/yellow/green zones instantly updated) on the map. Losing this functionality would just suck.

Actually it's one of those context things Google is great at. If I type in Vancouver, they know I mean Vancouver BC and not WA.

Why b/c you're expected to swim across the Atlantic Ocean like Google?

What public transit takes you over the ocean? Because that's what Google shows

meh, gMaps has fucked me enough times that I don't think Apple will do much worse.

That said, no public transport on Apple maps = WTF

gMaps gets this wrong all the goddamn time. Not the Wash. Monument, but many, many other locations.

Then I would say the complaint is valid. still Geomatics data is not really all that complete anyway. Even Comparing US and Canada and you'll see the detail and accuracy is a lot better in USA.

According to Apples #'s there are ~20,000 non retail employees in the US. Where are these people getting their numbers?

http://www.apple.com/about/job-creation/

Edit: nevermind I see 7K of those US employees are applecare related. So 13K engineers.

Nah, according to the Apple fantards, it's working as intended. People are just going to have to get used to the fact that Apple is always right.

I've been screwed by them a few times (as every single GPS map service will do) but their accuracy rate overall is low for this metro area, < 2%. Also, their traffic monitoring in real time is phenomenal and most likely the best out there. Also, nobody (Garmin, Navigon, Tom Tom, Mapquest, etc) has Streetview every time when you arrive at the destination which is a huge advantage. My only peev with Navigation is that it doesn't always pick the fastest route, but I can find that on the alternate routes option. All in all, my next phone will be a Moto Droid if Apple can't offer G-Maps on the new 5.

No arguments here.

Aren't they (Apple) also using OpenStreetMaps integrated for worldwide data? That would explain the overseas crappiness. OSM is *usually* half decent here in the states.

As touched on before, transit directions are HUGE for anyone living in a city. I don't own a car, so its train, bus, walk, or taxi to get anywhere.

I don't know what their data source is. Buying data is expensive. I used DMTI before.

The 2 main problems with apple maps is

1. transit directions
2. Street View

Apple is at fault for taking away these features. Users are idiots when they have to lean something new. I been screwed by both mapquest and google maps nothing is 100% but Google seems to be the best out there and apple took that way.
