Side Note: Last episode of Life After Top Chef is on tonight. It's been alright, a little more drama than I normally like but good to see where people are at these days.

I stopped watching last season because of it since it was online only and if you are not going to show it on tv then it should not matter for the actual competition and just be a bonus event.

I read one preview article that says they are.

Top Chef is now a brand, not just a show. Cutlery, cookbooks, apps, whatever, they're aggressively expanding and looking for more eyeballs in more places. The last chance kitchen is stupid, but people watch, so it's probably going to be around for a while.

Yeah, I pretty much stopped watching the season they started the last chance thing. I don't know that I ever put my lack of interest on that, but it certainly contributed.

Honestly, that show had no place else to go after the All Stars season. They had a string of some great seasons leading up to it, then that. And the season that followed (DC?) just wasn't that good. It's a shame because I was living near DC at the time and was excited for it, but they didn't have a good local chef and they did little that represented the DC dining scene.

Just watched the first episode. Didn't see any confirmation about the last chance thing or any indication that watching webisodes would be in the future. Maybe that will change?

The elimination process was good though the one with Colicchio seemed to be far more difficult than the others.

The bad? Nothing from Padma other than her voice. C'mon. Top Chef without a Padma visual is like promising a steak dinner with no beef being served.

Colicchio lost his one and only Michelin star and he has the gall to criticize Ramsay's shows, btw Ramsay has 12 Michelin stars.

They need to go back to the regular episodes and do that before the show starts.

Ramsay knows he's filming entertainment television, too. Colicchio opens good but not great restaurants and tweets a lot of shit about politics, as long as he's not busy retweeting whatever his publicist put out for his restaurants.

I've never eaten at Gramercy Tavern, but he also hasn't owned it since 2006 (wikipedia). But I've eaten at Craft and Craft Bar twice, and they wouldn't be in the top dozen restaurants in Portland, let alone NYC. Don't get me wrong, he comes off as a good guy on TV and he's not serving awful food or anything, but his celebrity status shifts him into the overrated category.

Ramsay has great restaurants and shit shows. I would never ever want to work for Ramsay as he belongs to the "Berate and Yell" school of chefs. Colicchio has good restaurants and good shows. I'd much rather work for him.

I don't mind that so much, it's a warm up to introduce everyone before the show starts for real. Besides, I like the idea of having to earn your way in. Instead of being given a free pass step up and show you can produce when it counts.

Stefan seems a bit too complacent and not hungry enough to win. He has a Porche and 8 restaurants? Goood for him. If his performance in the last epsiode is any indication he won't last very long at all.
