When I win I promise to hire someone to keep posting for me here.

Hire Dessertcart he was the one with self proclaimed "high levels of smartness".

Although TheFlyingPig will be more entertaining until he fire roasts someone's beloved pet.

Heh, that utopia Illinois is a possibility.

I bought mine in CO so I have a better chance that the rest of you mooks.

So if...lololol...I win, can I collect in S.C. and not disclose my name or do I have to collect in CO?

How exactly does a multi-state lottery like the powerball work? Whichever state sells winning tickets must make the payout? I guess I always assumed that each state kept their share of the taxes and the rest of the money went into some sort of pool to be paid out to the winner.

The states (44 of them) and DC and PR and Virgin Islands form a group known as The Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL). It is a non-profit, government-benefit association owned and operated by its member lotteries. Each MUSL member offers one or more of the games administered by MUSL. All profits are retained by the individual lotteries.

All members in the MUSL pool the money together after all of the entities take their cuts (retailers, members of the MUSL, administration and marketing costs, other costs) to pay out the jackpot regardless of the location of the winning ticket(s).

If you've ever been to the S.C. lottery offices....there is some serious profit in the carpet, furniture, paintings, etc. Some political hack is making bank.

Per state lottery regulations, you must claim the ticket in the state where you purchase it.

Crap, that's a long bus ride and Pete left the state when we arrived.

Just idle speculation on my part but you generally can't claim anonymously in IL but I know where I can obtain a phalanx of good lawyers. If you layer entities a person might be able to get away quietly. I'd do everything humanly possible not to claim any prize under my name. If it was an absolute requirement I'd pull up stakes for a year, disappear to several foreign countries, and have everything paid for under my husband's name.

i've read some people change their names legally, wait a while to go in, show up in costume (think gorilla outfit) as there's a responsibility to appear in public but you don't have to show your face to the cameras then they get paid and later change their name back.

Your society dislikes being lied to, ours prefers to be lied to. Not everyone obviously, but a lot if not most.

ah. gotcha. we want to see the ugly woman we're about to fuck to remind ourselves how the world is. you spread a bit of grease on your glasses to blur things a bit to give you hope.

what happens if a foreigner buys a ticket on vacation and wins? someone mentioned something about having to claim in the state you've been living in the last 3 years or something which clearly wouldn't apply.

I do not know about that situation. IIRC, I can't remember a foreigner ever won any huge jackpot. I am sure US lawyers would not mind to jump in and help out, for a nice fee of course.

Not I personally but some of my countrymen, women and furries, yes. I'd venture to guess we have a higher per capita religious population for the same reason.

because of your religious beginnings? it was people who hated the relative lack of religious persecutions going on in england at the time that went off to a new land. according to stephen fry in QI anyway. but it does seem that religion in the UK is getting weaker. a good thing IMO. no republican/evangelist spouting religious nonsense.

So the wife makes me go to CO and get a ticket. Why couldn't we have gone to Boston instead? Women.

Who was out in the boonies? The single winning ticket was sold out in Chicopee, bet they leave town and never look back.

Good for her, but why did she not wait a least a week/month and set up a LLC or something to maintain a low profile/a level of anonymity? Now she will be a target of kooks, fake charities, family members she never heard of, etc.
I wonder what her former job was that she had to quit the very next day.

Agree.

You can if you happen to live in one of the six states where lottery winners can remain anonymous: Delaware, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio and South Carolina.

I think GA was trying to pass some stupid crap that would let you stay anonymous for a 25% cut.
