Justin Amash: the only ethical conservative in Congress. Tulsi Gabbard: a complete political coward.

Holy shit. A Republican voted yes.

Edit: Seems to be a mistake. Go figure.

There was one R who voted for the original impeachment resolution.

Fitzpatrick of Bucks co, PA, days after the phila suburban county went heavily blue in the 2019 local races.

I wonder if it was him again... Some drama there

It went off the tally and stayed off. It was a mistake.

The war is for the votes of the American people and a prolonged impeachment trial will only reduce enthusiasm to remove these traitors from office.

What impeachment trial? Things can stop now if the Dems choose. There is no reason to have Mitch and Trump boasting and gaining support because they were allowed to make a mockery of the Constitution. There's a matter of principle here and a travesty can be mitigated or contributed to.

Just start running candidates and Trump can go insane as one powerless. That won't help the GOP as much as their winning, and pissing on the Constitution will be a thrill and a win.

The duty of the House is to the Constitution and the member took an oath. The Dems have kept that and should keep protecting this by denying more damage.

Vote on the articles and move on if you like. Trump is impeached and nothing for it and it's over.

That's silly. McConnell wants it to be over and he the one who puts the stake in the heart of impeachment and he and his mates will have praises sung.

Why do you want to help them? The Dems retain control, can have additional testimony, and court cases resolved. They retain the upper hand or take a beating just like a martyr.

Don't complain when you want to give away the only way of not losing. Trump goes down in history as the only President not acquited and rightly so.

This whole thing took the GOP on the blindside. Dems have controlled the tempo & put it to Trump mercilessly. They have the goods on Trump & everybody knows it. Now it's time to deliver. To delay would just play into the narrative that it's political rather than an urgent need to cleanse the office of the criminal now occupying it.

Righteous indignation is what we need more of & this will provoke a lot of it.

Well that’s the first impeachment of his presidency.

I just had a hard time understanding why so many Democrats would want to jeopardize their political futures, so I said to myself, this cannot be, those people are nuts. Nah, they wouldn't really do this. I guess this is really going to play out to the stupid end. (in the end they will look stupid)

Dem voters hold their politicians to standards and one of those standards it the rule of law and another is patriotism towards our country.

Hope that clears the reasoning up for you.

Would you feel this great about it if our military members were so cavalier about disregarding the oath they take on enlistment?
You mean our trained killing machines? Previously we had a military with an oath and everything. Now we have trained killers, war crimes are lauded, and those in the upper ranks who still want a professional military are removed.

About time, well done Dems. Back bones were used while repugs threw tantrums and Russian propaganda about. And now they get to wear their treason around their necks when they vote to let the unfit Dump stay in office. Americans who believe in kings are not Americans, the subservient love of Russia just proves it. 2020 hurry up.

"Representative Amash is of course, the only member of this House who has no allegiance to either party, but to his country. He is supporting, as I've said both articles," Hoyer said. "We need not ask who will be the first to show courage by standing up to President Trump. The question we must must now ask is who will be the last to find it?" - Rep. Steny Hoyer

So, I'm watching the Trump rally in Michigan and he announced the impeachment vote live there and a few minutes later I start to see people in the crowd yawning and not cheering & clapping as much, as though the air was let out of the balloon. Hope it continues.

Watching nbc coverage, Chris Matthews made a good observation from the day of R rebuttals..

Not a single one defended Trump's character or his honesty.

No one believes he's beyond doing this, just that this particular charge was just "not that bad."

Does this even matter? When it goes to the house we all know how it's going to go. Trump will still be POTUS.

My concern is he will now have the backing of many Americans who dislike Washington. Trump will now play the victim, and we all know he's very good at playing this role.

He'll have the backing from the same people he's always had backing from. Even if they came out in record numbers it wouldn't be enough to overcome an energized anti trump populace which already consisted of 9 million more voters than trump has.

You really believe that?

This forum is nothing more than an echo chamber.

If you think your facts can invalidate my facts then bring it, otherwise stop projecting.

Fact #1: in 2016 the dem candidate received more votes than trump.

Fact #2: in 2016 republicans turned out in record numbers and still only had 63 million votes.

Fact #3: in 2016 73 million people didn’t vote for trump.

Fact #4: trump’s electoral victory came from less than 80k total votes.

Fact #5: trumps approval rating among republicans has remained at 90% throughout his presidency while his overall approval rate has remained consistently low and around 40%.

What all this says is that trumps base isn’t going anywhere and that democrats have a much larger potential to gain more voters than they did in 2016, especially if voter turn out levels remain at 2018 levels which there is no reason to believe it won’t.

Let’s see your facts bubble boy.

When this becomes your argument, I'd say you're on the losing side of the issue. And you've decidedly lost the plot.

Two U.S. Republican lawmakers on Wednesday opposed the impeachment of President Donald Trump with remarks that alluded to the Biblical account of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, causing the phrase “Trump to Jesus” to trend on Twitter.

“When Jesus was falsely accused of treason, Pontius Pilate gave Jesus the opportunity to face his accusers,” Representative Barry Loudermilk of Georgia said on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, saying Jesus received a fairer trial than Trump, who has been accused of abusing his power and obstructing Congress.

“During that sham trial, Pontius Pilate afforded more rights to Jesus than Democrats have afforded this president in this process,” the lawmaker added.
