It's both sides of a different flavor. No amount of damning evidence would turn the GOP Senate against Trump. Testimony from Bolton might well sway some of their voters, however, so they had to snuff that.

Ahh the apologist strikes. This wasn't perfect at all. Before this was turned over to the Senate many including myself thought that the inplicit powers of Congress should be used to force testimony or give consequences. Those ideas apparently really weren't sincere.

Congrats on Pelosi's approach.

You simply aren't worth the effort. You can pronounce anything BS, but as this involves your ego I don't really care.

For everyone else, It would have been nice to see people hauled in under contempt citations until they testify or until the election is over, but I expect many will find an excuse for that too. It seems anything the Dems did or did not do is moot as it's now it's too late. For anyone else the best thing that could be done is the investigations continue just as if the trial never happened. Others can play apologists if as I expect the House runs away from forceful measures. I'll be pleased if I'm wrong.

I'm not a Republican nor a Democrat bitch, thank you.

As if there was the slightest chance of the GOP ever removing Trump from office. It's absurd. Trump owns the base so he owns the Party. It's not he's claiming innocence, either, but rather that he can do anything he wants & get away with it because of that. He's right, of course. The GOP is utterly craven.

Warren Crossed the line? Please. What crosses the line is this sham of a trial and all these senators who care more about themselves and their "sensibilities" than the oath of office they took.

Amazing isn't it?

Warren asking a legit if cheeky question regarding credibility, Moscow Mitch's piles quiver.

Rand Paul tries, again, to get a whistleblower killed by trumptards or alt reich, and the sensitive traitors don't bat an eye.

I can't wait to piss on McConnell's grave.

So what? It wouldn't have changed the outcome. It's not even a cover up at this point, just a deeply immoral power play by Trump & McConnell.

Also. Fuck Bolton. Hope he sells 0 copies and gets rotated out to Siberia.

YES!
I can not comprehend why patriotism has died?
Where are those 1776 patriots?
This is foreign influence at its best, to in effect kill off democracy.
GOD FORBID the second term of Donald Trump.
Democrats will never again regain control. Never again!
Republicans, Trump, and Mitch McConnell will have four full years to dismantle our constitution to effectively ban free and fair elections.
They can and believe me they will.
REMEMBER... free elections are now the only obstacle standing in their way.
AND.... the number one freedom every dictatorship eliminates on day one.
Expect this during Donald Trump's second term.

So the amendments are getting voted on now. First one is to get subpoenas for Bolton, Mulvaney, and others. Wonder how close these will track with the no witnesses vote?

Oh great, the power's blinking and this storm is just getting started. Yikes!

Now that the impeachment attempt has failed, this now puts A SHIT LOAD of pressure on the democrats to nominate "THAT ONE PERFECT CANDIDATE" that can and will win against Donald Trump come November.
Beating Donald Trump in November IS THE ONLY AND THE LAST CHANCE for democrats.
So.... democrats had better damn well GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER ASAP then nominate that ONE PERFECT CANDIDATE, or.... just F**king admit defeat.
No more fooling around.
No more inner fighting.
No more fishy DNC games.
No more off the wall nonsense candidates like Tom Steyer and Mike Bloomberg.
The looneys need to drop out RIGHT NOW TODAY and the serious plausible candidates need to untie and determine together who that one perfect candidate should be.
AND... if that one candidate does not yet exist, then BEGIN THE PROCESS ALL OVER AGAIN.
Because... democrats do not want to hand Donald Trump a second term.

PS.
I always hated John Bolton.
I actually felt sorry for Donald Trump when he first picked Bolton to join the administration.
I knew Trump had no idea what the hell he was getting into, and I knew that Bolton would not last long. A few months at most.
Bolton has always been BAD NEWS.
Bolton has never done any administration proud which he has served in.
He looks like a looney with that ridiculous facial hair, and the mental state that would dare adorn such a facial monstrosity only proves the disfunction of his brain.
From which rock do these people crawl out from under?

Color me disgusted, even though I realized the removal of Dump was close to impossible, I at least wanted to see his cronies answer those subpoena's and be forced to shit on Dump's face under oath. So the GOP cried "partisan impeachment", so was Nixon's, the difference is Nixon's people eventually realized he knew of those tapes and that was that, he had to go. Even if it cost them their career they didn't want the legacy of enabling a rotten apple, these GOP traitors will go down in the history books as the lamest, weakest, sorry-sack Senators to ever hold office. As death takes hold as it does for all men, how will their utter failure weigh upon their souls. Ultimate cowards.

It was a play from Trump to gain acceptance from the hard-core right but like you said, he had no idea what he was getting into.

There was a near zero chance of him being removed. The only chance involved witnesses revealing even worse things than we already know.
I guess overall I am disappointed that not even a shred of a credible defense was offered.

The constantly changing defenses put so far in this trial alone (talk less the weeks leading up to this trial):
1) He did nothing wrong and we don't need to look further despite overwhelming evidence already present that shadiness was afoot
2) He did something quite wrong but its not impeachable because its not a crime and its gotta be a crime
3) Ok. it doesn't have to be a crime because our constitutional founders clearly didn't mean that. What he did is clearly impeachable by their standards but impeachment will divide the country
4) It's clearly impeachable but only if others in my party think its impeachable too and will go along with me
5) A president can undermine our voting democracy directly because his re-election is good for the US
6) A president can solicit foreign aid in winning re-election but only if he's also trying to do stuff good for the US simultaneously and therefore has a mixed motive
7) The case hangs on motive and you can only be sure of the motive if you can read trump's mind (unlike every other trial we hold in this country)
8) He clearly did something wrong and we do agree with the motive but its up to the house to completely prove it first not the senate. The senate is not supposed to do anything more or gather more information unlike past impeachments
9) He clearly did something wrong and the house did prove it but we can only impeach if there's bipartisan support, despite my casting a vote being exactly that

What other republican logic am I leaving out here?

Oh last one:
10) He clearly did something wrong but we're too busy to impeach and need to get back to passing no laws out of the senate.

So, I was thinking of a door number 3 here.

Wednesday when the vote comes, 47 (Democrats + independents) plus 19 Republicans vote remove, 33 Republicans vote acquit, one votes present/no vote/not present. Unless I'm mistaken that'd require a vote from the Chief Justice to break the 2/3rds barrier yes? Or does 2/3rds 'count' as majority?

If the Justice vote is required, it eschews responsibility off the Republicans for the final vote. They can claim that it was a torn decision (no matter what the Justice's decision was), can blame the Democrats for running a crap trial, and either way get to be remembered more for their comments of their votes than the votes themselves (as they're somewhat insulated from the final decision). Plenty of time between now and then to plan everything out, as well as write some wonderfully eloquent arguments regarding their decisions.

One thing we CAN do is get people involved!, I've already been working a group of 20-somethings at work and explained that if they don't the end result could be hellish for them. Since this is no a no-rules game I hyped up that Republicans will eventually cancel any entitlements they may think are automatic. It's only about 10-15 people but since I'm one of the oldest guys there and a certified master bullshitter I think I'm making inroads.

May no grass ever grow on that swampy, urine-soaked plot of vile earth. You could sell tickets at $20 a pop and it would be popular for decades.

I'd pay.

Make sure you are selling 64oz coffees and water bottles at the entrance.

An asparagus soup stand would be a nice touch.

I doubt you are correct on the issue of harm.

Tell it to Christine Blasey Ford, or the alt reich and militia crowds who feel Il Douche is above the law, who repeatedly threaten civil war when they don't get their way. This group has people who "don't care about the optics," remember? Your dismissal is hard to reconcile given the incredible surge in right wing terrorism lately, but I guess minor compared to you trying to help Paul. I know some Brits who might have an award for you.

It’s funny that you guys are such thugs that you think outing him is a good thing.

People I know who served would beat the shit out of someone who did what you’re trying to do. You should be ashamed of yourself.
