Why do Democrats want to send this thing off so fast? You do the opposite of what the Republicans want.

They also made noises about stretching it out into the Primary season to hobble Dem Senators campaigning for President. We're not quite there yet, anyway. We'll have a court ruling on McGahn's testimony on Monday or sooner which may flush more rats out of the woodpile. We may get Lev Parnas, John Bolton & others. Right now GOP House members just want somebody to make it all stop but it won't, of course, not until Schiff makes it stop.

For crissakes, I didn't realize that Sondland said in his testimony that it didn't matter if Ukraine actually conducted an investigation. They just wanted them to announce it.

Shows how genuine Trump's concern really was about "corruption." Trump wanted a soundbite for the campaign. An actual investigation would have been inconvenient as there were no facts to back it up.
Once again proving that the "fake news" reports about this a month ago were not fake.

If its not shut down now, it will be one long acid trip of alternative upside down reality, passed on as fact.

i don't see how the court could rule in favor of the WH. being able to order your reports to not testify a) defeats the entire point of a subpeona from the legal/judicial side and b) negates a tremendous amount of congressional oversight.

The House has to impeach at this point. I'll be very curious to see if the senate actually holds a trial. I hope they do, as I want to hear from the folks that weren't allowed in the impeachment hearings, and the people that refused to speak.

If the Senate actually tried stretching it out, It would only because the Turtle decided to turn it into an investigation into Biden. But I don't think he'll do that. They'll have Barr and Leningrad Lindsay insane lunatic stuff to press for the whole of 2020 regardless. My point was that it's ridiculous that Democrats appear to want narrow the impeachment focus, and they have signaled they've wanted to end it quickly.

Yes. Something could change with McGahn et al., but I've seen Democrats suggest they don't really care if they get it or not.

If you mean house it's way too early yet. If you listened to witness testimony pretty much everyone in the WH administration has been implicated at this point, Bolton, Pompeo, Pence, and Giuliani. The only one who wasn't directly implicated was Trump himself, but I'm guessing that at least one of the four I listed above will implicate him if called to testify.

So no, it's too early to impeach yet. There are still witnesses that need to testify which is why I was wondering what's next on the schedule.

At some point do we have to consider that the GOP is controlled by Russia to some extent? They're still pushing a debunked talking point that only benefits Russia and took steps to weaken Ukraine along the way, along with the moves in Turkey and Syria.

It stops feeling like tinfoil times and more like Red Dawn times.

It's not looking good for Trump-

Trump will appeal, of course, but it may not stop some of them from flipping.

Sorry, I did indeed mean the House. I'll correct my post.
Thanks for catching that.

Trump stole the GOP primary voting base. Swooned, they did. He's the guy who puts the fire in their bellies to get out there and vote. They're crazy as fuck, too, having absorbed way too much GOP mind rot over a period of decades. They love Trump desperately, heart & soul. It's like this-

Russians? Hell, the GOP leadership has no problem with corrupt multinational business oligarchies. They just want in on the action.

Although for a non-criminal proceeding, if pretty much everyone that reports to the boss is implicated might as well impeach anyway. At best it's indicative of pervasive corruption and gross incompetence.

The base is nutjobbery of the lowest tier, but the members of the House and Senate in denial of facts... it's really the saddest state of affairs.

WHY don't some of these witnesses appearing before the committee run for president?
So many of them are the most patriotic. moral, knowing right from wrong Americans I have ever seen. I had long thought all of those great Americans of such high integrity and who's heart is in the right place, I thought they had long died off.
I thought that all we have today to seek the presidency were a bunch of morons, crooks, self serving political hacks, liars and thieves, THEN... someone like Dr Hill comes along and its an OMG moment.
Maybe, just maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel but only if one of those high quality, highly intelligence, high integrity Americans would only run for the presidency.
In the end, it doesn't matter about tariffs or immigrants or walls or black or white, what really matters in the end is a person of the highest integrity and who's heart is in the right place. After you have that sitting in the Whitehouse, everything else will take care of itself.

They'll also have the Chief Justice, not Pence or Mitch presiding. The shens will be limited I think.

At least from these hearings we can now realize that all is not lost.
We do have some pretty great Americans still around.

Pure people don't run for president anymore, or if they do they will be smeared by the time it's all over with. Politics is a dirty business. That said, do you have any idea of their personal views outside the hearings?

A few thoughts...I think Democrats are right to send this off to the Senate quickly and let it die. There is nothing to be gained by dragging out a longer inquiry, waiting on courts to rule on subpoenas, etc etc. The House Dems did their job. The evidence was damning. We all know that at this point, there is no additional evidence that will sway Republicans. Even Hurd today was like “well I don’t agree with what happened but not impeachable!”

Republicans are united in sin with this President, and I don’t expect a single R from the full House to vote for impeachment. I do expect a few vulnerable Dems to vote against. We all know the Senate will acquit, Donnie will be all “TOTAL EXONERATION!” etc. etc. It will suck for anyone who gives a damn about the country.

But here’s the thing. Do we really expect Donnie to be on his best behavior after getting away with foreign collusion TWICE?? He’ll keep criming. He can’t help himself. He still has “the best people” who can’t help but fuck it up. He will get caught, again. Perhaps it’ll be small potato shit, but maybe it’ll be something bigger than UkraineGate. Whatever it is, I fully look forward to Stupid WaterGate 3. And I look forward to Dems holding it over the heads of every Republican in Congress who allowed this shit to continue. Enjoy the election year.

damn it!

This has been THE POINT for more than a month now. Sondland revealed this a long time ago. I know I freaking commented about it several times. Trump never fucking wanted an investigation: he wanted a fucking REALITY TV soundbite moment, for the PRESIDENT of UKRAINE to lie to the world about an investigation that would never happen.

That is it. And it is far, far, far more fucking damning than actually demanding a real investigation into a fake event.

I was actually floored when Sondland said this yesterday, because it's about freaking time. It's the absolute heart of the joke that is Trump, that is the GOP, that is their collective braintrust of Fox News: zero substance, fake news, fake everything, just endless, empty pablum that amounts to nothing but "libruls bad" for reasons they can never fucking explain.

...and Trump is the bleeding, pusy postule on the cancerous face of every fucking republican today. just...useless, diseased toxic essence.

If everyone was just solidly in two camps, why would Republicans continue all the way through 2020 with Biden, and the investigation of the investigators? Please. It's dumb to just stop and let them run the show for the campaign season like what happened to Hillary. Pompeo, Mulvaney, et al. would be gold nuggets. They should also NOT make it solely about Ukraine. Add emoluments, the Mueller obstruction, etc..
