I guess it depends on what you think the goal of being a senator is.

The man's control over one of the most powerful parts of the American government can't be ignored. Like I said, he'll go down as being one of the worst Americans in history. But that's because of his effectiveness in what he is doing.

You know, the Senate is supposed to be a jury in these deliberations. Seems a bit peculiar that the Jury is coordinating very closely with the Defense regarding the trial. I wonder how well that'd work out in any other court.

Yeah the rules need to be changed. Its just collusion at this point.

Well that's sort of my point, do you think we should judge senators by how effective they are at implementing their preferred policies or by how they affected the country?

Maybe it's just semantics but I would say McConnell is a very SKILLFUL senator, he is also a horrible senator.

There's not much that can be done really, Senators already take an oath to act as an impartial jury and McConnell is publicly bragging about violating it.

Can we impeach senators for collusion and breaking their oaths of office, etc.? Especially when they brag about violating it.

The Senate can vote to expel members, yes, but since the current senate majority are the people violating their oaths I'm not going to hold my breath.

Hm, I wonder if once CJ Roberts takes over he could declare them in contempt for blatantly breaking the oath?

Senators can't be impeached. They can be removed or censored by congress, but they are the ones that would have to vote to do so. Instead we just need to keep reminding the American voters of this come next November.

That ought to be sung from the rooftops. Seriously, how could anyone support the principle? I'm sure that the defense offered will be that the impeachment is a Democrat plot and therefore principles don't apply.

The oath-

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

Also, from Wikipedia-

Senators must also take an oath or affirmation that they will perform their duties honestly and with due diligence.

The only diligence we'll see from the GOP will be in defending Trump. Facts be damned. They'll endorse his criminality. And why not? Trump voters knew he was crooked the first time they voted for him. They admired him for getting away with it.

You are a complete fucktard, take the infraction.

Bet if I said that to you I'd get infracted, but you won't because you play for the other team.

You know better than to call out the mods, yet you did so anyway.

Someone should start a new thread on the senate side impeachment.

We know what will happen in the senate.
None, NONE of the witnesses called in the house impeachment will be called or allowed in the senate impeachment.
Instead.......
Republicans will call Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, probably Nancy Pelosi and other house democrats to act as WITNESSES.

Republicans called the house impeachment a scam and a joke. We haven't seen anything yet. What the senate republicans will conduct will be a total Donald Trump campaign ad. ONE LONG Trump 2020 campaign ad.

The coup is nearly complete.
Just give Trump a free pass in the senate, then the very next day Donald Trump will be up to his old habits of corruption and destroying American democracy.
Give Trump a win in 2020, and say good-bye to freedom of the press.
Add to that the freedom of speech.

I can't wait for this guy to start his falling on the sword for his orange boss:

BTW, Matty was arrested for DUI (he refused to take a breathier) and then he had his daddy's friend drop the charges and fire the cop who fired him.

When will GOPers start behaving like the party of law & order?
