Funny because his impeachment very much is not about a phone call. It is about a scheme to abuse his power for personal gain. It is about his obstructing acts to prevent Congressional investigation into said abuse of power. The phone call is a tiny piece of this, important for 3 reasons:
1. It was likely pivotal for people to become aware of the scheme and start taking action to document/report on it
2. It is, thanks to his obstruction, nearly all of the evidence emanating directly from Trump
3. Absent anything else, there is reason to consider whether the phone call itself constituted criminal action

But I guess reasons 2 and 3 are pretty compelling for Trump to start becoming even more paranoid. While I agree his impeachment is about much more than a phone call it's very clear that once he realized that federal officials listening as part of these calls would report his abuses of power he decided they can't listen anymore.

This is an ongoing pattern too, I think people don't emphasize enough that Trump has engaged in a private meeting with Putin with only translators present and then confiscated the notes of the US translator after the meeting concluded, meaning no one in the US government has a reliable record of what transpired. That is... extraordinarily concerning to say the least and this Ukraine impeachment is likely only the tip of the corruption iceberg.
