I figure this would be a good place to ask this...
I have a Seagate 7200.7 120gb drive and a 7200.8 250gb drive. Both of them suffer from an idle buzz. I read about it on the web and it happens to other people as well.
Whenever there is no activity, the disk will make a slight buzz sound for 30-45 seconds. Then it will stop. Or it will stop when you access the disk. The buzz is intermittent.
I thought it was just an anomaly of the 7200.7 disks, but when I bought a brand new 250gb 7200.8 a couple weeks ago, the drive still has the idle buzz. Does anyone else have this happen?
I read somewhere that the disk is performing some sort of diagnostics. But every few minutes or so is rediculous. I bought Seagate drives because they are so quiet. But Seagate is building drives that make noise on purpose! Grrrr!
I still have both my Seagates, but I just bought a WD 320gb drive. And it's awesome! I'm not sure if I'll ever buy another Seagate.
