A guy posted a thread on SomethingAwful saying real-sugar soda was in stores now for passover week. I guess grain is prohibited during that time like meat is during Lent. I haven't confirmed this yet, will be going tomorrow.

Update: Looks like some areas of the country are getting it later than others. A Baker's employee said their Coke rep said it would be available sometime next week. If you call a store in your area, ask for "kosher for passover" soda. They'll know what you mean.

I thought Coke was made with real sugar and Pepsi was made with corn syrup. And "New coke" was Coke made with corn syrup, which sucked, so they had to switch back to real sugar.

If you're under 14 you can eat meat? Man, Catholics are half assed. Not only can you eat meat if you're under 14, but everyone else can still eat fish!

Actually, I believe it used to be that no meat but fish was allowed on all fridays, in order to help the fishing industry.

Could it also be because Jesus and some of his buddies were fishermen?

It's a silly tradition and is slowly becoming non-practiced amongst Catholics.

However, how does this make Catholics half assed? Other religions have certain restrictions on when, what, and who can eat things, so why only bash Catholics?

Nope, Coke's been made with corn syrup for a LONG time now. It's cheaper, you know...corn syrup is the primary sweetener in most soft drinks.

not entirely true. you see soda bottling plants are like mcdonald's franchises. some are owned by pepsi/coca cola corp, but some are privately owned and yet bottle coke or pepsi. this means that they also very state to state in terms of quality and, sometimes, ingredients. for example, the sodas bottle in hawaii are all bottled from pure sugar cane sugar because it doesn't make sense to ship in HFCS from the mainland. these are some of the best sodas you'll taste.

How much would shipping be on a 12 pack to Oregon?

Yeah, I always thought the coke in Ecuador (GLASS bottles, REAL sugar, I think the recipe is different too) was much better than the US.

This is exactly why you need a subscription to the SomethingAwful Forums... this is old news...

All soft drinks (sodas) in America are made using high fructose corn syrup unless they are diet or otherwise specify. The sodas being produced with real cane sugar are for the Jewish community and Passover. And they are super-tasty by the way. Dublin Dr. Pepper is just Dr. Pepper made with real cane sugar... here's a link...
