... You guys sure? I've already used up 10.64 GBs of data for this month... still 2 weeks to go until my next month renewal. I used 25GB last month...

I'm on the $70 PREPAID right now.

Try and download a 200MB file continuously and see if the speeds stay the same throughout.

BTW, check out my screenshots above. Note how there are TWO $70 plans. Which one do you have?

I can confirm that Sprint plans are also probably unlimited. I've seen no throttling below the admittedly not so fast 6-8 mbps speeds I get on WiMax with over 200 GB downloaded in a month.

I know Verizon throttles those with grandfathered unlimited depending on individual tower congestion; if there isn't enough bandwidth to give all the users in a cell area good speeds, they throttle those who are over the 5GB or so "soft" cap.

I think it has to do with the fact that your plan has tethering on it. As I understood it, the unlimited 4G plan was just that, but if you added tethering, it changed the plan to be "unlimited 4G"* (* throttled after 5GB)

T-Mobile's chat support is so full of shit.

You: Let me be more precise. When I'm downloading a file, the first 5 minutes is at full speed, and then it drops dramatically to 5KB/s. Everything is slow at this point - downloading the file, browser, speed tests, etc. If I stop the download, wait for a minute, the speeds go back to regular.

I don't believe so. At least I don't know of any apps. This happened across numerous file managers as well that connect to my Amazon server. All of them experience the same throttling.

Well, I started a new month with T-Mobile down in the Bay Area.

As far as uploads go, I get the shit throttled out of me.

I'm currently trying to upload a 100MB file to my Amazon server.

Upload started off good at 160 KB/s. After 2 minutes of sustained upload it drops down to 1-6 KB/s.

My Amazon upload sometimes fails because of this.

And this is after only using 500MB so far for the month.

I also have a tmobile post paid plan unlimited and routinely use 5-8GB s with zero issues.

If you really need the bandwidth, maybe you got to bite and bullet and go with Verizon; their plans go up to 50GB a month, and it looks like you can nail 10GB for 100/month, 12GB for 110/month, 14GB for 120/month, etc.

If its crucial to your business, I don't see why not. You also get the added benefit of having reception outside of metropolitan areas.

I've been testing this some more. Right now my downloads are sitting at a solid ~1 MB/s.

My uploads are still very bad. We're talking about sustained uploads here, not short bursts which are always at high speed.

I tried with ES File Explorer to my S3 server. It craps out to 2 KB/s within one minute.

I tried with S3 Anywhere. It sustained 200 KB/s for a good 8 minutes before it just stopped. It was 50% done and it just stopped. Not sure if it is an app issue.

Now I'm trying it via tethering and I'm using Cloudberry. Same thing as ES File Explorer - starts off fast but I'm now at 6.3 KB/s with an hour and a half to go...

I can no longer tell if I am prepaid or postpaid anymore. I think I have a prepaid account because I had to pay $70 to continue my service at the start of the new interval. It had de-activated and I had to put in more funds. When I click on the option to change my service though the only $70 option is the one that I am already on.

What app are you using for sustained uploads of 100MB+ files?

I just tried ES File Esplorer with my FTP server and the same thing happens. Starts off fast. After one minute it slows to a useless speed.

... I noticed that after 5 minutes of transferring at max speed I get throttled. As soon as I stop the transfer and wait a minute, my speeds are back to normal.

My hypothesis is that after a certain amount of data transferred...

Maybe its your phone. It could be overheating, especially if kept in a protective case.
