They sent me an email yesterday informing me that the $0.08 wire oatmeal holder filler item I used to get $25 off $100 a few weeks ago was canceled due to lack of inventory. How am I going to hold my oatmeal now? And just before Christmas, they really left me in the lurch.

I STILL have 2 of the Ultra X-Connect 500w PSUs from back in the day when TD would sell them off for around $20. Neither is currently in use, but they were blingy at a time that everyone was doing a blingy build.

After roughly twenty years of burning people on rebates (intermingled with a few years of when they paid rebates, just to keep the sheep off balance), I say good riddance to bad rubbish.

Don't worry guys, now all they will go bankrupt because here in America people have no jobs to buy the stuff, especially Korea and China are.selling same stuff for cheaper price and they were just resellers.
Next will be Newegg and Microcenter, Bestbuy and so.
It's like illegals all around US.

Agreed.

Haven't used them since 2001 when I discovered they tossed in a complimentary, 30-day subscription to some magazine I don't recall that "renewed" after the 30 days at $38/yr.

"It was in the disclosure when you made the purchase, sir."

Wholesalers cannot be expected to do some the basic tasks of "service" in case transactions goes wrong, simply because having one company do it all is not cost effective. They sell the big batches to stores Newegg, who then in turn sell the singles at a markup from the wholesale price.

So the storefronts process the returns, honors warranties, and provide customer service, all for a markup. Newegg and Amazon are the dominant players in the market precisely because they are winning the price wars. There is no Harbor Freight equivalent for all products because there is no "generic" hard drive. CPU, or video card that can be made. Monoprice is a Harbor Freight for only cables and Korean monitors. Most people aren't going only Alibaba and even if they did, they still have to pay up since the manufacturers don't want prices to be severely undercut.

Going out of business does not always result in bankruptcy. Bankruptcy does not even necessarily result in going out of business.
This is not a bankruptcy from Tigerdirect. They were sold and then put down

EDIT: As pointed out below, I was mistaken, they are shutting down.
***

I thing there a bit of a misunderstanding for some people. They are just closing retail stores, not their online storefront. There should be no issues with rebates and support.

On March 10, 2015, TigerDirect's parent company, Systemax Inc., announced that it will be exiting all retail operations except three locations: Flagler in Miami, Florida; Jefferson, Georgia; and Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. It will also be closing a distribution center in Naperville, Illinois. They will be focusing on online sales, and business to business now as a business model as online sales have skyrocketed each year.

I do not believe they are just closing storefronts, I think TigerDirect is indeed just going out of business altogether.

Beginning December 24, 2015, all sales are final. Orders placed on or after 12/24/2015 12:00 AM ET are not eligible for return, refund or exchange and returns will not be accepted. The manufacturer’s warranty for covered products will still apply. Information about a product manufacturer’s warranty and/or support contact information can be found within the item's detail page on our website or you can click here to visit our Help Center.

What is worse is, I don't find their prices that compelling to go through with a buy, since they won't even honor DOA items.

For example, a HD dies, you go through the maker and you get back a refurbished product. Screw that.

Stay far, far away...

Nope, they are good as toast. Their inventory is basically barebones on the website now. I'm just eyeing the Hauppauge tv tuner they have since it is is discounted quite a bit.

There goes one of the last places where I could order items sales tax free. Everyone has warehouses in Tennessee due to FedEx in Memphis.

Never mind. I went into Global Computer and the virtual shelves are virtually empty. The following info is probably useless. I even got the state wrong. The remaining web pages claim NJ as home.

But, there is no store closing announcement.

More signs of unprofessional work style and incompetence????

Happy Tiger Direct customers may be want to know that Systemax, Tiger Direct's parent company, may still be operating an online retail presence, Global Computer Supplies, http://www.globalcomputer.com/.

Past experience, trying to avoid local sales taxes, found TD merchandise, prices, promotions and no sales tax (for me). New York customers will find that Global Computer is in state (taxes?).

Future prices and promotions may, or may not, continue like when TD was a Systemax company. News and press release searches do not mention any changes at Global Computer.

This is intended to be an unpaid public service announcement from a practicing cheapskate. YMMV and I have no financial interest in Global Computer or Systemax. Have a nice day.

It sounds like they sold everything to one of those liquidators that have the BS 80% off signs, and idiots run to those to get the "deals".

Same here.

Every rebate I filed with them, I got back.

Me too! I think their rebate is BEST!!!
Though I have never selected rush service for rebate, but they always came back in a month. I got so many FAR items from them, and free shipping, with no tax either. In just a month, I'd receive a big envelop which has some small envelops inside and each of them contains a rebate gift card.

Sad, I only just noticed that the online side was going down too. TigerDirect was the only place to get the FX-8300 respin if you wanted one, and for awhile there, they were stupid cheap! They also had some good deals last year for black friday (and the period leading up to it), especially if you use that $25 off coupon for being a "first time" customer. And they were a good place to grab refurbs for mom & dad when they needed a "new" PC to replace their aging Netburst Celeron (ugh).

I think the market is correcting itself... at the end of the day there will be basically one B&M store (MicroCenter) because online is killing the B&M's off and that's all our economy can support (minus the prebuilt crowd going to BestBuy, etc.) Personally, I like to go to MC for some of my stuff, and for all the reasons B&M stores are superior to online.

I've shopped at CompUSA, they were OK. I've ordered from TD... meh. I've tried to shop at Fry's... but refuse to ever set foot in there again. MC just rocks compared to those benchmarks...

I don't see the reasoning on buying TD for $14 Million... and then just popping a cap into it. Pretty expensive hobby. Certainly it will return in some form, most likely online-only. Maybe they will branch out like Newegg has done and start selling diapers, brake pads, and cabana chairs.

I think there is more to it than that.
They did have some prime real estate and warehouses & distribution centers, the rebate center (TD ran it), they also had lots of business customers, and the TD name itself.
They also had to have at least a few million in inventory as well.

$14 million was incredibly cheap for them to get everything, in fact, I really wonder how they managed it. I suspect they had inside connections to TD, and they got a deal they couldn't refuse.

They only bought it for $14 million because it came with a $12.5 million mail-in rebate.

Good Luck!

Aren't they closed yet? Might as well, I don't see any deals, no matter what their ads say.
