2007 is superior to 2003 in most ways, if only for it's ability to show more than 65k rows.

I verify on two installs of 2007 also. They are both patched to SP2 so maybe it's an issue that has been fixed.

I like 2007 as well... use word, excel and ppt extensively over the summer.

Use? All the time (Excel, Access, Word, Outlook). Use to any significant level of expertise? Hardly at all. I love Word 2007, though..used it in school and the automatic works cited stuff is epic.

I use Word 2007 for school all the time. I like the entire Office 2007 suite much better than 2003; I think the tabbed interface makes everything much more accessible and easy to use. Although, I know 2003 has been the professional standard for years, and there is probably a learning curve between the two, as well as feature and compatibility issues. It all depends on which one you learn first. I started with 2007 (used Org before) so going back to 2003 is more difficult for me.

At work:

1) We still use Office 97
2) We upgraded from Windows NT to Windows XP last year
3) My mailbox is 40mb
4) Our shared work connection is 300kbps

I'm really not worried that they'll be upgrading anything anytime soon.

There's nothing wrong with Office 2007. I like and use OpenOffice more, but Office 2007 isn't bad, if you need to pay for an office suite.

I wasn't being entirely serious.

its got some nice features, but i find it pretty frustrating at times. If I dont have to submit a work in office 2007 format (the only reason i have it at all is for classes) then i do the work in OpenOffice and keep it for myself or print it out to hand it in.

Yes! I use this all of the freaking time. I love it. I just wish that you could define your own style if you need to. My school has this Form and Style guide that they like to force on us.. basically MLA citation but numbered references. None of the built-in ones in Word quite do it, so I just use MLA and none of my professors have given me a hard time about it.

I've been using Office 2007 for a couple of years, and it's decent. I don't particularly like the new Ribbon, but other than that, it's great.

I'm waiting for Office 2010, to see how it looks.

Office 2007 isn't bad, however, even with the few nice additions that were made to Excel the program is now full of Fail. The macro editor is a POS compared to '03.

I was frustrated at first too, then I took a (required) class that went over a lot of it. Not so frustrated anymore!

loved 2003, love 2007 right now. i saw screenshots around the internet for 2010 and it looks to be a nice update.

however, ive always hated office for mac (X, 2004, 2008)...i absolutely cant stand it. i actually have vmware with xp set up to use office 2007 whenever i need it - i hate office for mac that much.

If a company I apply for can't read a docx resume, I refuse to work there. It would suck to be in an environment that can't keep up with the current releases of software. We currently are on Server 2008, SQL Server 2008, Windows Vista, Office 2007, .Net 3.5, and so on. I've been using Windows 7 since release and the company is moving there shortly.

Wow. Just, really. Wow. That's all but impossible in many places.

My office, for example. A few of us in the IT department are running Win7, but no end users are. We also prohibited widespread Vista deployment. Why? App compatibility. We're required (by court order) to support certain applications, and they aren't compatible with anything higher than XP. Same reason we're still running Office 2003 on almost everything. We're going to be purchasing the next version of that problematic app in January, and it is supposed to support Win Vista and Office 2007, so we'll just have to see if it will also run in Win 7.

We also have numerous databases that don't support SQL Server above 2005. The ability to keep up with software releases isn't necessarily in that given company's control.

Office 2007 is awesome, but I can't speak about it from an IT standpoint. 2003 is crap.

They started to roll it out at work. Of course people are so dumb they get totally confused. This one closed it and reopened thinking it would fix it. The only thing they needed to do was turn the autofilter off which was a very large highlighted icon.

Companies don't like to roll software for that reason being one of them. People actually need training on it to do the most basic tasks.

People also really have a hard time understanding the new format (like .docx). This one person sounded like she found the neatest trick that you could save as .doc even though it's right there in the fucking menu.

And when a customer did start sending documents as 2007, I simply got the compatibility viewer. But I guess not everyone had it or due to limitations with it, we asked that they send it as 2003 format. So they resent it and it was corrupted. Knowing them I thought they renamed .docx to .doc. I renamed it back to .docx and it opened. LOL

When I started work at my new job back in August I was given a very nice workstation with dual LCD monitors and Office 2007. Since I'm an Accountant and I work in Excel pretty much all day every day I had to just figure it out for myself. There is a bit of a learning curve but it's really not that bad once you figure out where everything is.

Dipshits might have trouble with it but it's not rocket science.

I wouldn't be so quick to pass judgement.

60 people and 2 IT guys might be overkill if the company does simple (non-automated) manufacturing and only has desktops + file and print + security to worry about.

60 people and 2 IT guys might be underkill if the company is YouTube in pre-google mode.

Not to mention the fact that 2 IT guys is really the bottom limit, because if you only have one IT guy, what happens if he is hit by a bus?

My thoughts exactly. Office 2007 is absolutely amazing. Most of the people who hate it just don't understand. There are a few annoying things, sure, but overall it has made me much, much more productive. VBA is now easier than ever, ribbons make things much more intuitive (admittedly, you've gotta get used to it first), and the substantially smaller file sizes are great for opening/saving over the network.

I couldn't live without Office 2007 at this point. I'm definitely spoiled by it.

Oops! We are always careful not to touch anything at end of month or year end especially. You have to always assume that deployment will go badly and so what time is it best to go bad? And that answer is never when Finance department is pulling overtime already.

I am working at a very large company and our corporate standard is always at least a version behind.

Cutting edge has no place in a real company but scouzer that is just bad, really man.
