I KNOW this thread has been done over, but I did a search and couldn't find one, plus I want a more recent thread .

So do you have any getting ready tips, studying tips, mental tips, test-day tips? If so, please share them with your fellow Anandtechies

I'm taking my PSAT on the 21st of this month. I'm signing up tomorrow morning. 400 seats available. 1000 people in my junior class. 1200 in the sophomore class. and only 400 seats. I'll have to "beat it" and make it early

I'm currently using my sis' SATs study books and her PSAT study packets. I have to pay a small amount of $15 to take the PSAT. you?

1. Lots of sleep the night before.
2. Caffeine can be good, if you're used to it.
3. Most importantly, be relaxed. Being relaxed will bring you much more success than 12 hours of studying.

TIP 1 - Don't stress too much. Stress makes you lose concentration.
TIP 2 - Get ALOT of sleep. Something between 8-10 hours. Not to much though, or else you will be groggy
TIP 3 - Don't think that studying will help. The idea of the SAT and PSAT is to see what you KNOW. Knowledge is not something you can learn in a day. Knowledge comes from school and class and broing stuff like that.
TIP 4 - Try a few practice problems the night before. They can be found all over the web. Don't worry about taking a whole practice test, it is a waste of time.
TIP 5 - Remember a calculator, pencils, and clothing.
TIP 6 - Eat a hearty breakfast. When i took the SAT and PSAT, i got a good breakfsat of eggs, grits, toast, and milk beforehand. It gives you a nice, settled feeling.
Lastly, TIP 7 - Relax, take a deep breath, and realize that you are better than every other person in the room.

The best tips I can give you:

* Go to the site early, find a good seat, like in the back, where there is little distraction.

* Dull your pencils. Sharp ones takes longer to fill in.

* Get a lite breakfast. Heavy one makes you drowsy.

* Stretch during breaks

* Relax the nite before. Get your usual amount of sleep.

Cheers!

Oh yeah, i forgot, try NOT to sit behind nasty girls wearing short skirts and thongs. I did that for my SATIIs and got terrible scores on all of them. Nasty girls in thongs are just as distracting as a pile of puke on the floor. Just try your hardest to avoid them.

1)pack some kleenex.
2)DO NOT have any caffeine for a while(caffeine messes up your system, it's a fact!).
3)Nothing that upsets your stomach
4)Eat whatever you want in the morning. However, get up early to get that morning poo out. THEN eat. Poo again if you have to. Poo is very bad when you're on the hard questions nearing the end of the last sections. Biscuits and Gravy do the trick for me! That is, make me feel good.
5)BE COMFORTABLE IN ANYWAY!!!!!
6)Don't show your parents your score if they go on and on about someone who scored higher than you. You're young, and they might not help you pay for a car.

Now to SAT/PSAT type questions.

For analogies:
make up sentences, i.e,

Needle: Knitting

My sentence is:
A needle is a tool used in Knitting

The choices are
A)Finger: Sewing
B)Sign: Painting
C)Throat: Singing
D)Hurdle : running
E) chisel: Carving

the correct answer is E, because the chisel is a physical tool, used for the activity. Throat and Singing could be a possibility, but it is not related to the analogy given.

Um...Critical Reading. Read the stuff in italics. You won't know the sh*t, so read the questions before hand.

And for the Sentence Completions...cover up the answers, and make up your own worsd.

Bada bang bada bing, I saved you $700 that you would've spent on an SAT school!

40. ENERGY : FLAG
(A) strength:fortify
(B) sleep:lull
(C) pace:slacken
(D) walk:stumble
(E) authority:subjugate

If someone would be so kind as to explain this one to me I would be rather thankful. (C is the correct answer)

I will be taking the PSAT along with everyone else on Saturday. Well I guess as long as all of you get lower scores than I do I will be well off

By the way, what is the average score, and what is a good score?
