:hmm: If true, that sucks in many ways. One... pirates have screwed things for everyone (temporarily) however they didn't do so knowlingly. Second... Sony has shut down use of their network to all legit customers just to stop the piracy of a minority. If people's info could be compromised that's one thing, but if info was just not checked that's something entirely different. Screwing your paying customers in order to stop your non-paying customers is bad practice.

But you don't pay for PSN, so in most cases they aren't screwing paying customers. I am glad I have my 360, the last week would have sucked.

Why? Sony is getting the word out to all their devs that only 3.60+ will be allowed on the dev network from now on, which is the firmware that has not yet been hacked. It makes quite a bit of sense honestly, the time frame fits well too.

It's certainly not out of the realm of Sony. It wouldn't be the first time an anti-piracy measure has blown up in their face. Regardless of whether it's true or not, they're pissing off their fanbase. It begs the question though... why do they need to shut down online gaming servers if it's a problem with the PSN Store? Why not just close the store?

I miss the good old days when the PS3 was struggling and they actually offered good user support, and had exciting new features down the pipeline. The lord giveth, the lord taketh away.

1) Comparing the CD root kits to PSN is like comparing a Goat to a copy of the Bible written in Russian.

2) The only people 'pissing off the fanbase' are the douche sacks that are hacking the crap out of it. The same crap-nuggets that destroyed MW2 online play, etc, but sure, lets defend them because all they want to do is 'write homebrew apps and use the hardware freely'. BULLSHIT, they're 99.99% piratey pirates scamming for free games and hacking for cheats.

3) PSN != The PSN Store. You log in to PSN, you have access to the store with your registered CC, hence there could be an issue with Dev accounts that use dummy CCs and allow limitless test downloads.

i've been streaming netflix on my Ps3 with no problems

open netflix
it asks to sign in to PSN
click sign in
verify that it's down for maintenance
sign in again
after a few times netflix comes up and works ok

I haven't been able to get mine running after several dozen attempts.

You know... I connected GTA IV: Episodes of Liberty City to a server in India. I was playing multiplayer against people and it was FAST. I tried connecting to Gran Turismo servers and it was SLOW. 2K has GTA PS3 servers near south India?

I'm aware it was fixed, but it still happened as was a direct result of platform 'freedom'.

This has been working for me as well; Netflix works fine but you have to click through a couple login screens for PSN to get there (thankfully).

It's hit and miss. It doesn't work fine for everyone even if you click through a couple login screens. I gave up after clicking through about 50 times.

No it doesn't. They adverstise the ability to play multiplayer as a feature of the games. People have a right to complain. No, they don't deserve to any money unless they are PlayStation Plus members, but people certainly have a right to complain that an advertised feature is not working.
