Anonymous hit them with a DDOS to protest the lawsuit against Greg "GeoHot" Holtz. Though it's illegal, I find it amusing. Taste of their own medicine.

How is it a "taste of their own medicine"? It only hurts US THE PLAYERS, not Sony. Fucking morons.

The only people getting a taste of whatever medicine you're talking about are PS3 owners who just want to get online and play videogames.

Also, it's douchebags like Anonymous and Geohot who pushed Sony to take the actions they have. Sony WANTED people to have the OtherOS option, but then a handful of hackers had to abuse the option and try to use it for shady reasons, and yes, at that point, to protect their intellectual property and appease shareholders, Sony removed it.

It's not like they put it in the system originally thinking "Well, we'll give them this for a bit and then rip it out from under them." Also, to date the PS3 is still by far the most open system on the market out of the box when it comes to using 3rd party hardware like hard drive and headsets.

Be ready for some people to go after you on here. I laugh that people try to play pirates up as the victims at times.

Huh? Pretty sure he isn't defending pirates. Sounds like he is defending Sony, if anything...
That's what I meant, I have noticed on this site that people defend pirates alot, so I was just saying I'm sure some people will not agree with his thinking.

I've gotten a lot of crappy products from Sony over the years, had a PS1 I ended up having to turn upside down to get it to work, a VCR that died on me literally 3 days after the warranty was up, a TV that died not that far out of warranty, I got no love for the company, but I do think apples-to-apples, the PS3 is pretty great. The OtherOS option was nice I guess, never used it, and every time I talked to someone who did use it, they just bitched about how limiting it was compared to running *nix on an actual PC.

I just think defending a group who's only solution to whatever injustice they feel like has been done to them is to DDOS the shit out of some servers or expose private information and encourage identity theft of employees that work for that company is putting energy into supporting a course of action that will only lead to Sony closing down their system even more.

If you support anarchy, you support stuff like this. Once you grow up, get a job and realize there are bigger things to be concerned about than whether or not you can run some crippled copy of Linux on your game console, you tend to be a better person for it.

Not you directly by the way, just in general.
