PSP custom firmware

I currently have 3.03 OE-A, iirc. Been awhile since I've touched the firmware. However, I am very behind in the firmware updating and cannot do anything, like download the Patapon demo like I want to, since you need 3.70 to connect to the PSP to the PlayStation store on the PC, and the PS3 has never seen my PSP in recent times.

What process do I need to get to at least 3.70 custom, or potentially 3.9x? I want to keep the 1.50 capability that my current fw supports, as I love the emulation I can do on the system, and want to keep all of that.

Anyone got any ideas? Is it easier than I am thinking? Do I have to take it in steps, or just go for the most recent custom firmware? Am I going to lose any of the things I can currently do?

You won't lose anything with custom firmware as far as I'd experienced with my fat PSP. In your case, you'll have to upgrade your PSP from 3.03 OE-A to 3.52 M33-4, and then upgrade to 3.90 M33-2. After that, patch your firmware with the 1.50 add-on files for 1.50 homebrew support.

Emulators are pretty mature at the moment for the N64, GBA and PS2 platform but I cannot guarantee that they'll work. Since the 1.50 kernel had never been altered, all of your programs should work without any problem. The upgrade process requires you to upgrade your system step by step just like the following:

3.03 OE-A -> 3.52 M33 -> 3.52 M33-4 -> 3.90 M33 -> 3.90 M33-2 -> 3.90 M33-2 + 1.50 add-on

Many of us here should be able to assist you, which is definitely going to save you a lot of time.

Is there a specific 1.50 kernel add-on for 3.90 M33-2? I'm seeing one for earlier releases, but not one specifically for that latest release.
And yea, all the emulators and roms I have currently on my card all work as soon as I launch them from the menu, through the 1.50 kernel built into the firmware.

Well, I have no idea what emulator you are talking about. I guess either you are working with PS1 games or you had installed the 1.50 kernel along with the 3.90 M33 firmware as a package, because the original firmware didn't include the 1.50 kernel (my guess is due to space restriction). As long your required programs are running then you should be fine.

PS2 emulator for PSP? Link?

Sorry, my mistake. You are correct, there are no PS2 emulators for PSP. PSP only supports PSX games.

huh?

I have firmware 3.03 OE-B.

I don't know much about the kernels and whatnot. I just know I place all of my games in the Game_150 folder or whatever, and that I can switch the kernel in recovery mode from 3.03 to 1.50. I was under the assumption all the emulators run in 1.50 once launched, that why all the homebrew work.

I have not updated yet, I asked that question so I can prepare everything in advance to update to the latest in one fell swoop.

You'll notice that your games won't run even if you place them under the folder, Game 150, without the 1.50 add-on. That 1.50 add-on is not specifically written for 3.90 M33, but it is compatible with it. If I recall correctly the add-on drops the Korean font and a rarely used feature.

No, not all emulators run under the 1.5 kernel, only ones that are compiled for it. These days most devs are compiling for the 3.xx kernel (you'd put those in game3xx, xx = ver).

Yes, there is a 1.5 kernel addon specifically for 3.90M33, you can get it here: http://www.dark-alex.org/ (go with v2, no need to install v1 first). The M33-* version doesn't matter for the kernel addon, it just has to match the kernel version (in this case, 3.90).

so... if I currently am able to use 1.50 games and emus under the game150 folder... do I need to apply a 1.50 kernel add-on? Or will updating to the newer firmwares co-exist with my current 1.50 capability?

Yes. With any custom firmware >=3.71M33 you have to install the 1.5 kernel separately.

No. All the current firmware files will be removed before the new firmware is written to flash0.

Yes you do. As I had mentioned before, the original 3.90 M33 firmware does not support the 1.50 kernel right out of the box.

so... I am fully updated with 1.50 kernel add-on...
can modded firmwares simply not access the PC PlayStation store? I want to download the Patapon demo.. this is pissing me off that it keeps telling me to set the usb mode on the psp... it's turned on, and latest firmware, yet won't connect.

and yay, just discovered, if im anywhere on campus... i can't touch wifi the PSP does not support the security system that OSU employs on its wifi network sure it can use t-mobile hotspots, but there aren't any on campus, it's all OSU wifi
hmm, so all the fancy features I continue to miss out on. goddammit

I'm in the same boat for university access. Damn them.

I'm on 3.71 and have no troubles connecting to the PC store.

do you have a PS3? Are you able to connect to the PS3 using a USB cable to transfer game demos from the PS3 to the PSP? I can't do that either. Never have been able to as long as I've had a cracked PSP (never tried before installing custom firmwares).

Is your 3.71 a custom firmware or official?

I just am pissed that I really can't do anything with the PSP even though I should be able to.

I'm running 3.80M33-5 and have no problems transferring demos to my PSP using that PSN downloader crap.

Is your PSP a TA-082? If so, the original downgrader for those units corrupts an IdStorage key that changes the way the PSP identifies itself via USB.

The key that gets corrupted is 0x0041. Run KeyCleaner and have it check your keys; it should be able to fix the key if it's corrupted. It'll also tell you which PSP you have (TA-079, TA-082, etc.).

this thread has been immensely helpful. Thank you
I am currently download Patapon demo right now from the PC PlayStation Store. Will have to try connecting to the PS3 tomorrow.
I had good feelings when I turned on USB on the PSP for the first time after running the fix, and my PC had to install drivers for it again, and this time actually stated it was a PSP.
So happy, so happy.
Now if only OSU didn't have such an insane wireless network setup... I could enjoy the wireless features... but at least I can connect to devices properly.
