A PSP can play all those GBA games, too - if you grab custom firmware and the appropriate emulator. Well, not FF3 DS, I admit, but that's not really a system seller, either.
If you're going to for modding/custom firmware, the PSP is better. The battery life issues are more or less gone when you're running games off the memory stick. If you're just going plain vanilla, the DS is going to be more appropriate.

PSP all the way. With custom firmware (using 3.50 from Dark Alex) you can play all playstation one games, even compressed. This includes all the Final Fantasy games ever released for the PSone.
I've been playing Legend of Dragoon on it since I never ended up finishing it on my PSone. So the argument that the DS has better rpgs is flawed I think. Btw, it's your PSP and SONY can't tell you what to do with it, so using the custom firmware is perfectly legal.

I'm finally thinking about picking up a PSP slim. Does anyone know if it's been hacked to run homebrew yet? It'd be really nice to play my PS1 games on it.

It has been, but I'm pretty sure you need to get your hands on another system that has been hacked to do it.

Yep, requires a "Pandora's Battery" to downgrade it.

So if I get just a PSP slim and make a Pandora Battery, I can do it?
