PSP Vs Video IPod

I want to buy something that can play videos on the move. I am looking for something that can play a wide range of video formats esp those encoded in divx,xvid. Which would be better for my purpose?

Also, is it possible to transfer DVD rips to either of these devices and play them?

You would be better off with a Zen Vision:M if you want good format support. It plays xvid and divx files

I cant offer too much advice except:
Dont buy a PSP unless you really want it for games.

And creative has much better multimedia devices than Apple.

I suggest the Cowon A2 as another option although a little more expensive.

What is the typical battery life for the zen vision m or the cowon?

i have a psp and tried using it as a media device. now i also have an ipod video. i mostly use it for music tho. i've pretty much given up on portable video on that type of device.

Portable video playing just isn't practical yet. I tried with my PSP and it wasn't entertaining to watch videos on it. The small screen is the main concern here. You're just not gonna like it when you have a 20"+ widescreen at home. Just listen to mp3 while you're on the go, which is what I do now.

Even the Vision:M isn't perfect when it comes to file format compatibility. There's bitrate limits, this and that, etc. Either way, you'll be doing a lot of converting, no way around it.

The Vision M has a user removable battery - and you can carry spares. They are rechargeable, and give you about 12 hours on a charge. So, the final answer - it depends on how many spare batteries you can carry.

I just want to watch some OCW lectures from MIT on a portable device while on the move. Its not intended for watching movies. So I am not really concerned about video quality. However, it should be able to play those lectures. I have to check on what encoding is done on those files.
