Yeah, it tends to be better to watch. Sad thing is it looks like the women are starting to do the flop a bit more

Totally agree about men's soccer. Match those fakers up with a rugby team and show them what real punishment is.

I would pay money to see this!

The gap between men's and women's soccer is noticeably smaller than the gap in most other sports. Women's basketball is a joke.

Fun game for sure last night. Got some lucky calls, but they were the better team by far regardless.

Thankfully we're all entitled to our opinions! But I think the increased interest in women's soccer relative to other sports speaks for itself.

The idea that women are closer to men in soccer is completely false. The fact that there is far more interest in women's soccer is because the competition is entertaining. It's the same reason that many people prefer NCAA basketball or football to the NBA or NFL, even though a pro team would slaughter a college team.

The only sports where women can come close to men are non-athletic sports like race car driving and golf.

Nobody said the women were close. I said smaller. Not small. Er.

But anyways, don't care. If you like it, watch it. If you don't, don't. Have fun!

I tried to watch some of the matches, but just can't get into it. The skill level in the women's game is too far apart from the men. Just basic stuff like ball control, passing, and goalkeeping skills.

If there is nothing else to watch, I might try harder to get into it. But the Copa America has been going on and there have been some cracking matches there.

Great match.

Alex Morgan's PK foul didn't look like a foul - Didn't she run into the German player? It's like James Harden flopping forward into a defender.

Pssstt .... No one gives a shit. They are GIRLS.

Still reading? Then you care. Tell me who won the WNBA finals last year. Ya, you don't care either.

Speak for yourself. People who love the sport will watch a well-played game, men or women. Football (um, Soccer) is a craze in my family and friends circle, and my 12 year old girl can give you all the finalists for the past dozen women's soccer world-cup championships out of her head.

NBA - meh (men or women).

LMAO!

As someone who watches a lot of Football, this is far from the truth. I'll go as far to say that Europe's men U17 teams can probably beat the women's teams in the World Cup.

That said, the teams are improving, but there is a huge gulf in class in the women's teams that took part in the world cup.

You are right - the U17 teams could beat most of the teams in the World Cup - but that might be because of bigger muscles. They would pulverize any female player in collisions, and outlast them in a 90 minute game. But ball play? I daresay many of these players are highly skilled there. Marta (Brazil), Necib (France), Sasic (Germany) or Morgan (USA) have amazing ball control and ground speed.

Actually, if contact while playing could be completely eliminated (I know, not possible, but just saying), would be fun to match one of those teams with the US or German women teams in this world cup.

this x1000. women's soccer is much more of a real soccer game than the circus show that is a men's competitive match. more flopping than an aquarium (ZING!)

yeah the flopping is what makes Soccer the most boring sport in the world. Its like a goddamn soap opera out there with bad acting everywhere.

Well and the fact the fields are too big and 95% of the game is them just kicking the ball around midfield. Make it more like hockey and ill watch. Smaller fields more shots on goal etc.

LMAO, yeah right. Good one.

Perhaps he was speaking of the difference in play between mens:womens. It's usually very contrasted, see women's basketball. It's almost a completely different game. That's not true with women's soccer.

Women's soccer is very watchable, I enjoy it more than men's soccer.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching Women's football, but I'm like this a lot of the time.

Maybe, but I find it to be a lot like women's hockey; watchable, but nowhere near as entertaining as the male equivalent. Women's tennis is my female sport of choice.

Yeah, but tennis still hass different rules for men and women. Make the women play by the men's rules since they have the same prizes IMO.

Yes, it's a foul. The German defender moved into Alex Morgan's lane after Morgan had pushed the ball past her, and seperated her from the ball via contact. That's a textbook body check, and is legal in hockey but not soccer.

I've heard stories of American Varsity High School teams beating the USWNT. The difference in athleticism between men and women is just too great. That doesn't make them any less amazing athletes, or make the games any less fun to watch. Women's tennis is a good analogy.

I like how Alex Morgan plays in full makeup and painted nails. My wife mentioned the same thing as soon as they put her on screen.

That's why women's hand egg will never be taken seriously. Those 'uniforms' while nice to look at, are ridiculous.

Yeah, hockey helmets! That totally distracts people from the game.

Same thing with the US Women's hockey team getting beat by HS boys.

As a beer-leaguer, I could probably make that team in some capacity.

Exactly, it's not about "are they competitive enough to beat men" it's about "is it competitive enough to watch". Women's tennis and soccer are good enough, basketball not so much.
