PSU +5V rail is low?

Last week I had a dying OCZ PowerStream 520W SLI so I send it back to OCZ still waiting for my RMA. So I got Myself the OCZ600GXS, I know that I'll get the same PSU with my RMA oh well I'm going to have two have them I guess.

I installed it then I did some test and checked my rail metres using Everest Ultimate and my DFI bios this is what I got:

+3.3V: 3.30V
+5V: 4.76V
+12V: 12.26V

The +5V seems very low to me no? Oh btw That's with 20 minutes of Prime95.

No.

@OP: Check with a real multimeter (they start at $10 or so). Software voltage monitoring tools are never as accurate.

Yes reading the voltages by software isn't very accurate. CHances are the voltage is a little higher then that. Keep in mind that there is a +/- 10% tolerance on teh +5V and the +3.3V rails and a +/- 5% tolerance on the +12v rails. So as long as you don't dip belowe 4.5V you are fine.

Yes the 5V rail is still used for a few things. Everything on your USB and Firewire ports uses the 5V rail. No to mention the floppy drive if you still use one.

3.3 V, 5 V, and 12 V rails (and 5VSB) are 5% tolerance. The negative rails are 10%. Page 22.

Yes but not much power comes from the 5v. HDD get most of what they need from the +12v rail.

Ok I bought a Digital multimeter and the +5V is 4.98v.

I think that 4.98v is very good! Thanks for all your help guys. :thumbsup:

Actually, the GameXstream series can hold its +3.3V and +5V pretty well.......until you push it to over 50% of its rated power, then the dreaded FSP Epsilon ripple issues come into play. The +12V rails, too, have significant ripple issues as you load up the power supply. But these issues are quite well known with the FSP Epsilon-derived power supplies.

Kyle at just did a rather intensive review and testing of the newest OCZ GameXstream power supply, the 1010W one, and it still had the typical Epsilon ripple issues. Worse yet, that power supply refused to put out more than 850W....any more and it just shut down. One has to wonder when OCZ will finally dump FSP and the Epsilon line as an OEM source and move the GameXstream line to a better OEM source.
