PSU Advice needed

Hey all, I'm updating my current build shortly, and I'm going to be needing a new PSU to accompany it...I just got a special on some PSUs, and I was having questions regarding price vs quality on these PSUs:

PC Power & Cooling 750 Quad for 179 USD

or a OCZ GameXStream 700W for 119 USD.

I know PCP&C's reputation is of one of the best in the industry, but I was unsure if they were worth the extra 60 Dollars, as I doubt the extra 50W is worth that much...

I do care about quality quite a bit, but 180 USD is higher than I wanted to go originally...so it comes down to whether it is worth it over that PSU I linked, or something similar,

Last question: I was looking for confirmation that the 750 Quad (or any other PSU people suggest) is compatible with the Antec 900 case which I will be getting within the next few days?

Thanks in advance!

You really don't need that much power, no matter what you throw into your rig. I'd save some more money and go Corsair 620w, even though a Corsair 520w will actually do the trick for you. http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817139001 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817139002

This will do just fine too btw, http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817194003

But if you don't care about all that, I think 180$ is a bit much to spend on a PSU, if 100$ gets you a very good PSU as well. So using that logic I'd go for the OCZ. The PCP&C might have a bit higher efficiency and push more amps, the OCZ can handle your rig just fine and thus 60$ more isn't worth it.

The difference betwixt the two units is like night and day. PCP regulates better has lower ripple and really, is an over-all better unit by far. The GXS is based on the epsilon platform, which is o.k. Nothing to rave about. So in essence, you get what you pay for. If price is not a factor and you like OCZ, go with their Evostream series. It is built like the proverbial tank. The Corsair suggested above is a good unit. A few other alternatives may be the Silverstone ST56ZF and the Ultra X-Pro 600W EE.

deadeyedata.com have special discounts setup for jonnyguru.com and ocforums.com members (free shipping on PSU's). Also, they are cheaper than newegg. Contact jennifer (owner) to obtain the discount.

GameXtream 700w is a nice PSU(using one at the moment, solid rails, rock stable) its a quality PSU at a good price , you don't really need anything better,Corsair is an alternative ,however In OCUK forums ,recently a few posts by Corsair owners that have had their Corsairs blow up(yes I know any PSU can fail even the best).Bottomline you can't go wrong with any of the above.

I had looked at the Corsair, and found it to look of good quality (Seasonic built if I remember right) but dismissed it as it is pricier than the OCZ PSU and had less power than the OCZ. I've been using Antec the last 5-6 years in 3 different builds, never a problem...the Ultra PSU I got a few years back...well, I replaced it with an Antec, its 12V rail went down below 11.5 and was causing Videocard issues (I did not overload it, this I know for a fact - its 12V rial would wander even under idle loads.)

Thanks for the input...I'm just so tempted to get the PCP because its well below its normal price...and I want a PSU to last a while...Again, thanks!

You get what you pay for.

I would echo what others have said here...don't buy a 700+W unit just because you can. Get a quality 500W unit.

The corsair 520hx has 3 12v rails doing 18a, just like the OCZxstream. And 520W will be all you need.

Well, I wouldn't pass judgement on what I need yet, I have multiple HDs, will be getting an 8800 GTS (unless I find a decent deal on a GTX, but I doubt that!) and so on...
What about the Corsair 620HX vs the PCP 610W Silencer (Link)?

Thanks again!

I really should look up where anandtech tested a PC with a q6600, 8800gtx, dual HD's, casefan and such, and it wouldn't draw more then 350W. It's there somewhere though. All this extreme PSU stuff is pure marketing.

Anyways, if the PCP 610W Silencer is as quiet as they say it, it would be a pretty good buy, compared to the Corsair 620W. With nearly 50a on 1 big 12v rail, it will fit your needs just fine as well.
