Basically i'm running 2 low end PSUs on my current system and want to just get 1 good one.

Im thinking of upgrading to just a coolermaster trupower 650W but not too sure if thats enough for the 12v rails...?

Current System
* P4 Williamette (actually a pretty inefficient CPU)
* all in 1 motherboard + PCI sata cards
* 8 consumer level hdds of various size
* PSU 1 - generic 350W
* PSU 2 - antec 380W 'true power'
* no optical drives/external devices, etc. pretty basic system

I tested the whole unit (no monitor) on a wattmeter and it pulls 150-240W idle/load

What's the total capacity of those hard drives?

Wouldn't it be more prudent to just get one big hard drive than a new PSU?

I'm running 8 hard drives currently (5 x Western Digital RE2 400gb, 2 x 150gb Raptors, 1 x 74gb Raptor) with a E6400, optical, RAID card and 8800GTS 640mb on a Corsair HX620w.

Factor 30w for each HDD on spinup and around 10W for each during read/write.

It looks like he is utilizing RAID. I prefer multiple hard drives over 1 large one sometimes. In the event of a failure, I know I have at least some of my data.

I would think 500w-600w should be enough. A decent PSU should be able to handle that load just fine on 12v rails. PC Power and Cooling, Corsair, and Seasonic are all good brands to look for.

That's what the second SATA drive in the removable drive bay is for.
