Hello.

I saw this on the EVGA product page and I wanted to know what this really means:

"Requirements
Minimum of a 400 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 26 Amp Amps.)"

Does this mean that I have to buy a PSU with 12V@26A per rail if I want to use ONE 8800GTS to run smoothly?

Can anyone tell me where I can find a PSU like that FOR UNDER A 100$ in newegg?

What other considerations should I take into account (Dual +12V, Over Voltage Protection, Efficiency, Hold-up Time, Power Good Signal)? What brands should I stay away from?

Thanks everyone!

26A combined on the 12V, personally I like Seasonic because of its low noise, but if you don't mind a little more noise cheaper alternatives can be bought.

To get the combined 12V amperage rating take the total wattage on the 12V rails and divide that by 12. For my Antec Neo HE 430 power supply it's 384W for 12V. Divide that by 12 and I get a total of 32 amps on the three combined 12V rails. That's plenty for my overclocked 8800GTX.

Ok. Thanks guys... just one last question: Which are the top 5 mainstream to high-end PSU brands?

I have a Seasonic S-12 500 watts. Is that enough?
I have only one hard drive, one DVD-RW etc (and a Athlon 3700+ and 2GB OCZ RAM).

Thanks, hahahah, that means I might be OK when the new beasts from ATI come out next year.

I can't wait. And then UT2007 will come out. Yooohooo!

would a 500W, +12V1@16A, +12V2@18A, and a wattage of 384W on the 12V rails work well for a GTX? i have an Ultra Xfinity 500W and im thinking of getting a GTX. anything wrong with this setup?

link to my psu

(got the psu for free....)

edit: rest of specs are 1 hard drive, 1 dvd drive, C2D E6600, DS3 mobo, 2GB Patriot RAM

384W is 32A on the 12V rail. It's the same as my 430W Antec Neo HE, although I have 3 rails instead of just 2. It should work.

Thanks man. I still don't understand how 4-15a 12v+ rails equates to the required 26a for the 8800. I thought you couldn't just add the amps from all rails?

Anyway, I think I am ok with this PSU too. And I've read in a couple places that this Fortron was re-rated at 18a on the 12v+ rails.. too lazy to find link and I'm posting at work, so I have to be fast and incognito.

Thanks for the input.

Some people here are going to tell you that Antec are crap ect. ect. ect. They had a problem a while back with bad caps (not lately) , but They still make good psu's. The 650 Trio is a nice psu as well, especially if you get it at a good price.
