psu for antec p180

im wondering which psu would be the best fit for the antec p180. im building an sli capable system for easy upgrades. so i was looking at the season or sunbeam ones. maybe even the OCZ mod stream. any help on which would look/git the best would be great! thanks.

yea see i have a Thermaltake PurePower Butterfly 480watt right now. i want some that thats more than 500watts cuz gtx's will most likely find their way in there. and i dont want to lose an arm and a leg for it. idk 130+ is just too much for a PSU in my mind. so idk i might get a sintek one for 139 i think. with like 500+ watts. i just dunno if all the wires are long enough.

Quality is far more important then quantity when it comes to PSU's. I?ve never heard of Sintek so I can only advise you not to buy it. Stick with reputable manufactures, Seasonic, Forton, PCP&C, ect.

You should also be aware that you don't need 500 watts at all, read this SPCR article to get a real idea of how much power you'll need.

That would be good advice had Sin-Tek had a bad track record!!
As it is I have been impressed with what I have been hearing!!
But with that said-- instead of telling you NOT to buy something because said person knows nothing about the product--or because the product has a limited track record...

You must remember all companies had to start somewhere.....
If you check there website out you will see it appears to be a solid and impressive start!!

I would advise you to take your time and check Sin-tek out!!
As I said I have been impressed by what I have been hearing.
But.....those other brands such as Seasonic, Fortron...etc....they are good brands also!!

Yet with that said....the only one of those brands that I have personally heard nothing bad about is PCP&P!!

Obviously, Antec recommends one of their psu's for the P180 (Neopower or True Power is recommended on the P180 box), but just about every psu will fit. Only issues are: 1) if you are a stickler for hidden/tidy cables and 2) your mobo's adaptors (20/24 and the 4 pin specifically) layout/locations. You can look at the specs on the length of the Neo's/True's cables and use that for a reference. I've fit a 520 Powerstream (but returned it because its loud and overated/priced IMO) and now have a pcp&c 425W Deluxe (modded the fan). It fits nicely and is all sleeved. The Seasonics are excellent psu's, but cables are rather short so hiding them (if you like this) is not really an option. I would not make my decision on the psu just because of the cable lengths, but wanted to give you a heads up. Enermax and Fortron are up there w/ Seasonic and PCP&C.

The Sintec is best lumped into the "flashy junk" category until reliable, independent evidence to the contrary becomes available (unless you are the type that enjoys catching expensive, X-Connect style arrows ). I suggest the Zippy HP2 series (e.g. HP2-6460P) as they come with server-length wiring as needed in the 180 (but it's up to you to verify that the wiring is long enough - I don't recommend extensions in high-current circuits). The HG2 series is also great, but I'm not sure that they come with the same length of wiring. Call Zippy directly to find out. And with Zippy, there is no doubt as to the quality.

Did you have to run the 4 pin ATX power supply underneath your motherboard to get it to reach or does it reach without having to run it under your motherboard?

Enermax sleeves off the cabling runs and they usually make them quite long.
Some find their use of long cabling runs annoying. An asset in this case.
This one is SLi ready.
Nice touch is the back-of-case accessible manual exit fan speed knob.
I'll be using the case's bottom 120mmx38mm fan (LOW) so I will likely be able to turn douwn
the PSU's exit fan lower and make it even quieter.
Google for reviews. The ones I read were good.

i have the ocz powerstream 520w with a DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D with no problems, the 4pin molexs can reach to the top of the case with a little tension, but it works fine

Why are you guys recommending 500Watt+ PSU's.

A Fortron 450 or OCZ 420 will do fine. Also look at the Antec Truepowers, Seasonic S12's, and Enermax noisetakers around 420 watt. No more wattage is needed than that.

The problem with the Antec NeoPower 480 is that it runs incredibly hot being that its made of metal with a single 120mm fan. The voltages are ok, but it gets incredibly hot and loud when Im running my Guild Wars game on FULL res. The SinTek PSU run incredibly cool and if it gets loud or quite i turn down the knobs, plus i can adjust the voltages. Sure its only a single rail, but believe me, this thing performs better than those brand names. But dude, dont just take our word for it, check out the review sites

Thx for the backing eahles and at the time you were correct. I also believed just becuase theres no track record you shouldn`t pass up a good thing!!

With that said though...
In my quest to find a PSU that I wanted to put in my Rigg I went to other forums and heres what I found....

I would guess that SinTek is not as new as we would think!!
Possibly even a rehash of an older company!!
Then after much searching and looking at various different CPU`s...
I saw a pattern that was confirmed on another forum...

Then to top that off I was really bummed when I found what I thought was enough evidence to justify NOT getting a SinTek PSU...
Besides that I also understand some other brands bear a suprising resemblance to the SinTek...hhmmmm

Due to the fact I could get the Turbo Cool 510 for under $200 at there site I went for it!!

i got an enermax 535w sli certified psu.

and i passed on the P180 and got a lian-li v1000. oh man, it is a beauty. i love it, so light, so smooth so ..cool.

Dual, speed adjustable, fans work well in P180 lower area with four drives. Adjustable PSU fan supply permits Antec fan to be run at low speed. Approx $90. I am very satisfied with the Enermax PSU.
