PSU for Q6600 and 8800 GTS

i've been shopping for a comp parts on newegg.com. my friend told me that i need a 550W of PSU but warned me about certain units that only display maximum power. so can anyone please suggest to me that what kind of PSU should i get?

cliff: preferably, i don't want to spend more than 100 bux.

I'm using a 300W PSU that came with the Acer E700 deal I got a month ago - Q6600, nVidia 8800GTS/320, 4x500GB SATA drives, 4x1GB RAM, Hauppauge PCI dual tv tuner. It's a "Lite-On" brand, you might google that and see what it's selling for.

and the corsair would work OP and there are plenty of others. search kinda works here.

The phrase starting with 'my friend' and including a certain number should've been your indication. "Kind" was another indication. Both issues raised were answered. To clarify, I discussed the wattage (an issue he raised) and I discussed the kind (an issue he raised).

but your posts are all the same. why won't you list your psu specs? its taken this long just for you to mention the name. its not "any 300w" unit i've seen you recommend to other people.

A breakdown of your parts would be nice. Will you be overclocking a quad-core and dual 2900XT graphic cards? Will you be running a stock Athlon BE-2300 and a 8600GT? It's always about the details. Either way, the Corsair unit PurdueRy linked is one of the best things you can buy for the money and will suit the needs of the vast majority of users. A lot of people are happy with their 'lesser' PSUs (myself included but my rig is nothing special) but it can't hurt to buy something that is universally acclaimed, has a five-year warranty and also in your price range.
