I scored one of these for $140 as a shell shocker. I havent received it yet but from what I've read it comes with a 240W PSU, that can only handle like a 1030 GT or some POS like that which is probably barely better than IGP. Was wondering if any of you have any experience on swapping out these proprietary PSU's for maybe even like a mITX 300w.... Idk. With 300W i could go GTX 1050 / Ti

The PSU in that HP Elite 8200 is actually really good for a 240W SFF.

In contrast, to the 17amps on the single 12v of the 240W in my Dell Optiplex 9010 SFF your HP 240W comes with dual 12v rails rated at 16 amps each.

I think you will be fine with the stock PSU (provided it hasn't aged badly).

If you read through the Newegg reviews of the MSI Low profile GTX 1050 Ti you will see that many people are running this card in SFF Pre-builts like yours (and even in SFF Pre-builts with lower spec power supplies than the one you have):

240W, as long as it provides enough power on the 12V rail and is of reasonable quality, is more than enough for a modern CPU and lower midrange GPU combo as long as you don't have a heap of 3.5" HDDs alongside them. Most CPUs in PCs like this are >65W, and even a 1060 is around 120W. Add 10W for the motherboard, another 5 for an SSD and 10 for a single HDD, and youre still way within the comfort zone of that PSU. Even if the GPU spikes to 150-160W for a few thousandths of a second here and there, that has no effect on the PSU unless it's way underbuilt. I would think the biggest challenge would be powering a card that needs a PCIe power connector.

Should've went for the Elite 8300 (a.k.a. HP Pro 6300), IIRC the 6200/8200 only supports Gen2 Core parts (no Gen3). Also check the technical specs many (not all) SFF systems have PCI-E x16 slot power-limited to ~50 watts. Might be screen printed on the board next to the slot.

Technical Reference Guide (pdf)

Maintenance and Service Guide (pdf)

I have the HP Pro 4300 and Elite 8300 SFF myself (support Gen2 and 3 parts).
