Hey guys, I'm looking for a PSU that's high quality. I mean ones with solid caps, and expensive components. I don't mind paying a bit more. I would prefer to have a quiet one though, and it definitely can't sound like a leaf blower =p. Any suggestions? I want it to last atleast 5 years on a high end system... perhaps oc'ed. Of course stable lines are a given.

We define the BEST using what criteria that is 100% agreed on, by all people?
To the person who uses Antec PSU`s and only buys Antec then we could say to that person Antec is the best? Could we not?
To the person who uses OCZ PSU`s and only buys OCZ then we could say to that person OCZ is the best? Could we not?
To the person who uses Ultra X PSU`s and only buys Ultra X then we could say to that person Ultra X is the best? Could we not?
To the person who uses OKIA PSU`s and only buys OKIA then we could say to that person OKIA is the best? Could we not?
To the person who uses Mushkin PSU`s and only buys Mushkin then we could say to that person Mushkin is the best? Could we not?
To the person who uses Zippy PSU`s and only buys Zippy then we could say to that person Zippy is the best? Could we not?
etc...etc....etc...

The point is very simple....there is NO Best!! There are an astonishing amount of PSU`s that are very good!
Then we have those people who will dive in the CAP issues and use related facts and such to prove that there are only a few PSU`s that are the best.
Then we have those who will point to how quiet a PSU as the only criteria for being the best.
Then you have those who believe the a PSU`s efficiency rating is the only criteria that should be used in defining what is the best.
There are alot of quality units on the market that have various CAP`s as well as various ER rating s as well as various different fans that all mean various things to various people and in the end do not equate to what is actually the best PSU.

In the end the bottom line is if you like your brand X Psu and you like all the bling as well as the extra outlet to hook up your cappuccino machine directly to your PSU thats all that matters.

I personally love Antec, but Seasonic is also top notch. If you want high Qual but decent price, get Foxtran they got good volts on rails and cheaper than Antec/Seasonic. I believe Seasonic is like for servers, mission critical stuff if you will that's where they are coming from.

You can't go far wrong with seasonic and they are pretty much the quietest active cooling PSUs around.

The best is pcpower and cooling, it stands alone at the top. http://www.pcpowercooling.com

Any of the top names will serve you well and have the components you seek.

Antec is my favorite.
I've heard great things about Enermax and PC Power and Cooling and now Seasonic (Seasonic is new to me but if the folks here recommend it, they have to be good!).

Lots of Seasonic fans around here. I have one too but I think you can find other psus for a better price. From now on, I want to stay below $100 for my psu. That Antec Truepower 550W is really sweet, or that Enermax 400W which is modular. If you want something that is a great value, consider the Antec Smartpower 500w which is also modular.

You did and the seasonic took at least a few bits with it. I've seen two threads where this has happened, one where the builder managed to get seasonic to buy him a new computer, the second we're not sure if it's a seasonic screw up or a user error.

SeaSonic is the most popular brand among people who professionally build a lot of high-end systems. PCP&C is a popular brand among kids who build SLI systems with windows in the sides and RAID0 for no reason. On the whole, though, I think many many times more people are using Seasonic.

It's kinda like hard drives. You really don't see many more complaints about Maxtor drives than you do about WD drives, but lately 10X as many people are buying WD. Complaints aren't as relevant.

You really can't quantify how good a power supply is just because of once complaint about it catching fire. You can quantify many other things about how good Seasonic is, though. They actually have a customer service department. They're quieter than everybody else. Their 430W PSU can reliably power about twice as much as most 500W PSUs. They are extremely efficient. They have tons of good reviews.
