to the OP: pretty much any psu mentioned so far in this thread will do you right and allow for a complete reasonable system upgrade. I wouldn't go any cheaper than the Fortron unit I mentioned, and would probably go for the Corsair unit(s) mentioned, depending on the budget. Good luck!
And who cast the first stone? Bwahahaha!
OP, stay away from Antec PSUs because they always go for crap capacitors inorder to save about $5 per unit. The VX Corsairs are built by Seasonic on the same platform used for the Earthwatts but the Corsairs are populated with the highly rated Japanese caps, UCC (United ChemiCon).
The best cheap unit posted was the 400W Enhance I linked. Even the cheap Fortrons are not what they used to be.
Okay lets se how truthful this statement is--

Antec TruePower Quattro (TPQ-850) 850W modular power supply
excerts from the review-- bold in black--
Here we can see a few of the Teapo capacitors
-- crap?? give me a break...puleese
I must admit that I am absolutely amazed with the lack of ripple and noise on this power supply.
http://www.jonnyguru.com/revie....php?id=120&page_num=4 --- 9.5 no mention of crap caps...hmmmm

ANTEC EARTHWATTS EA-500 500W
We have one Nippon Chemi-Con primary capacitor.
The secondary has OST RLX capacitors.
Finally, we're going to talk about the value of this power supply. You're certainly not paying for any additional bling here, but the performance is very good. http://www.jonnyguru.com/review_details.php?id=51&page_num=4 --- 9.0 again no mention of crap caps...hmmmm
Do we see a pattern developing???

ANTEC TRUE POWER TRIO 650W
Above, more OST's. Below is the Hitachi primary I told you about.
http://www.jonnyguru.com/revie...s.php?id=12&page_num=4 -- score 7.5 again....no mention of crap caps and the PSU didn`t even do that good yet Jonny says--
The Antec Trio is a great budget PSU. It does have solid rails, is quite efficient, quiet, has active PFC and SLI/Crossfire capable. The only thing I can't report on is longevity. Keep in mind that the Antec Trio is not built on the same platform as other Seasonics, such as the Corsair HX units, the PC Power and Cooling Silencer or Seasonic's own S12 and M12 models. But at $120, it's certainly far from overpriced.
Then finally-- we get to the Antec True Power II 550W
http://www.jonnyguru.com/review_details.php?id=33 -- which we know is loaded with --
Channel Well built Antec's typically use Fuhjyyu capacitors on the secondary side. If there's anything Fuhjyyu caps don't like, it's heat.
Then Jonny says this--
The Antec True Power 2.0 is an excellent choice for the builder on a budget. Solid rails, SLI/Crossfire capable, and no apparent crossload issues.
need I say more......seems that after that in the first 3 reviews Antec has glowingly turned the corner......
Jonny still gives this PSU a 7.5.....
Then Jonny still only in passing mentions the Fuhjyyu capacitors ....
The first 3 reviews are from newer models of Antec PSU`s......
Then this review with the PSU using as GY calls them crap caps gets a 7.5 and a recommendation--
The Antec True Power 2.0 is an excellent choice for the builder on a budget.
So can the statement be supported that Antec goes for crap caps--obviously some more FUD being slinged about by somebody with a bias against Antec.....
You be the judge...all I posted were facts from a well respected site--

FUD.....things that make you go hmmmmm
