Public DNS

Hi all. I have been having some problems with my DSL lately. I left a few pings going on my server and when it "goes down" I can still ping yahoo, and my inet gateway just fine, but my durn DNS servers are unreachable. Anyway, my provider is SWBell, and I really don't want to go through the hell that is calling them to fix this.

Does anyone know of a public DNS server I could point to? IP seems to work fine, and I think that would fix my problem.

If not, how about this. I have a 2k server that sits on my home network. I have never configured DNS myself, but there is a way to do that locally right? Anyone set this up? I have installed it, and told it to "poof" start working, but it didn't fix the problem. I point to it as my primary DNS server, with my providers DNS servers as second and third.

Is AD installed on the W2K server? If so enable DNS and set DNS under TCP/IP properties to null, Nada zip, zilch... that will automagically set it to the loopback IP and make sure that Port 53 is available to update to your internal IP. Also, to prevent a bunch of Netlogon errors set the DNS to be AD integrated.

Honestly I don't know what AD is. I have never set up a DNS server before.

I was really hopeing there was some IP out there that was open to the public that I could just point my DNS settings to and have it work. All I seen to be able to find are places like this.

Those don't seem to be what I am looking for. The root of this problem is that when my DNS servers go down, I have full IP connectivity, but no name resolution. I am also on a private 192 network with my dsl. if I had one big hosts file, I bet it would stay working hehe.
