Good suggestions. I used to use the foot method, but someone looked at me strange when I did it so now I just use the paper toilet method. Same effect, but you don't look like a crazy.

Why don't you ladies just carry around handi-wipes in your purses? It's much easier.

But you wouldn't. Which exposes your hypochondriatic tendencies.

Maybe not the tetanus shot but showering or washing hands wouldn't be a bad idea.

Though my immune system sucks for the most part, more often then not if I eat someone else's food I end up sick.

Wow, so you're like that guy on my sophomore year dorm floor? Walked into the hall bathroom once, he was at the sink. Walked into what I thought was an unoccupied stall and notice the seat is all gooey. He comes over and says (creepily) "excuse me, I'm using that". So I used the other stall.

Further chance encounters proved he spent 5 minutes and about 10 anti-bacterial wipes on the seat every time he had to go #2. And this kid got a hard on from Halo (he would literally shriek "Kieeeeel! Kieeel! Kieeeel!" every fucking time). I don't know what his problem was, but you're in that league. Congrats.

So spending 5 minutes every day or two to make sure you're clean is suddenly creepy?

Shower? After shaking my recently-washed-with-anti-bacterial-soap hands? Just because I touched a handle for 3 seconds? Seriously? Hell let's go through the list of what you guys touch after you leave the bathroom. Bet you'll be shocked.

No, this kid was creepy for a multitude of other reasons (see halo shrieking), it was more so the way he did it that was creepy. I mean this guy was really methodical to beyond the point of overkill. 5 minutes? Seriously?

And I do number two once or twice a day, occasionally 3 times. Since you're so big on personal health I recommend more fiber.

There is a difference between being a hypochondriac and being sanitary. When it involves piss and poop, I am extremely sanitary.

Piss is sterile when it comes out, and unless you have some parasitic infection poop is perfectly harmless when it comes out as well.

Clean & Sanitary != sterile.

You guys really should open the door with a paper towel cause there was definitely a 2 week period where I exited the bathroom without washing my hands. My reasoning was my penis is always protected in my pants so there was no point in washing off. But then my friends kept getting pissed at me so i had to start washing my hands again.

There's a guy at work who does the whole routine. Gets paper towel, stuffs in pocket, wash hands, use paper stuffed in pocket to dry and open door. Whenever he's in the restroom my coworkers and I make a purposeful attempt to not wash our hands and make sure he sees us touching the inside and outside door handle.

We know it really bothers him and that makes us very happy because he's a germ freak.

Some STI's won't infect unless by open wound transfer. It just depends on which one, I guess but it's best to treat it like all forms of STI.

Here is my ultra methods, it's similar to freakflag except a few differences.

1) Enter by using foot or shoulder to push door. If it's a pull handle, use one finger on top or bottom tip of the handle.
2) Wash hands
3) If #1, Use urinal
4) If #2, look for the cleanest toilet
5) Close stall door by using a corner of the door that is often untouched. Flush toilet with shoe even if it looks unused
6) Wipe seat clean with tissue, if necessary add some of the hand soap
7) Apply ass gasket
8) Don't sit on the farking toilet rim, do a mid crunch. Watch out for splashes.
9) Wipe, toss and flush everything. Use boot on flush lever
10) Kick stall open
11) Wash hands, save towel
12) Use towel to pull door handle. If push, then use feet.
13) Free throw practice

Just a minor heads up, the term STI has been slowly gaining preference over STD within the medical field these days.

No, I used to be normal and really relaxed about public toilet methods until in college I took Microbiology courses. One course is all you need to know about public toilets.

Prior to then, my steps were probably within 5 processes.

OP, judging from your avatar, I'd say you still managed to get a lot on 'ya!

I wonder if some of you germaphobes have seen mythbusters. Toilets and the like are among the cleanest things you'll touch in your daily life. Your keyboards and cell phones are the dirtiest.

I'm with irishscott and spidey on this one... freaking hypochondriacs. My girlfriend and I got into a discussion about this the other week, she's similar to the OP and I tried to tell her that was not normal. A little scary honestly and maybe she should get some help.

I don't get what's the big deal. Some of you would rather go with chance that you won't catch something.

I'd rather have a near guarantee that I don't. Is there something wrong with that?
It's not like I am doing this for every other little thing I am doing. I only do this for contact with public fomites that I have no idea of the history.

Personally, I haven't been sick since high school. Fluke or not perhaps some of it pays off.

Perhaps I should clarify my position. Public restroom hygiene is virtually the only area of my life in which I go to these extremes. I have no problem sitting on a log and punching out a loaf in the woods. I can work all day in the yard and still eat a baloney sandwich with dirty hands. My dog sleeps next to me every night. I will give any random honey who requests one a big wet kiss on the mouth. But when it comes to entering and using a room specifically designed for dudes...and only dudes...to have contact with their junk and/or feces I am FORCED to use extraordinary measures to ensure my own personal cleanliness. ESPECIALLY now that I've read some of the posts from you nasty F-ers. If that makes me OCD then color me OCD proud, baby.
