for just peeing, i get a piece of toilet paper to flush. I keep the same piece of paper to use when i'm washing my hands. . I also remember to use the paper to open the door. Discard it outside. I think this method is 99% sanitary

for pooping, i usually wash the lid with water, then soap, then water, then dry it. When i'm done, i just toilet paper to flush. Just like for peeing.

Share your methods for making sure you don't get some nasty std when using the public toilet.

Yes I'm arguing. Lack of common sense tends to piss me off. There are contexts where extreme sanitation is necessary. Everyday life is not one of them. And hell if you guys do all these clean-routines, whatever. Good for you. But don't think for a second that it's practical, medically necessary, or does anything more than make you feel good about yourself.

Missed this bit from earlier today. I don't get the feeling it makes me any better, nor germ freak at all. I do it with the idea in mind that I don't want to get my junk on other people. Keep bathrooms clean. Lever kicks on the other hand, are for fun and habit I always kept up. Rest is common etiquette kind of thing.

Every time you flush a toilet, some of the stuff in it is aerosolized. Bathroom air is dirtier than other air. This air also contains the specific pathogens that could make a human sick. Straight into your mouth, nose, and lungs! This makes what you sit on on the toilet seat look tasty in comparison.

Why stop at the bathroom though? Grab your pillows guys. Your bed, and specifically your pillow is rife with not only microbes, but animals! It would make a public bathroom floor look like surgical theater.

You are surrounded. The crazy thing you guys do in bathrooms are futile. Why waste the energy?

Fecal coliform bacteria are tested and accounted for in CFU per milligrams in the local water sanitation departments. They inject amounts of chlorine into the system in order to eliminate those common species, E. Coli, Enterobacter species, Serratia marcescens etc. Many of those are apart of much of our society's normal microbiota.

The key regulation with them is limit, we (scientists) know they exist in everything we do, that is why we do plate counting/filtration/ATP tests on them and make sure they are regulated to the proper CFU/ml amounts before they are consumed by the population. It's (nearly) the same routine done for food processing.

You can look up your county water information statistics stuff online. It's available on the net.

Bacteria can't survive forever on money anyway. There's a reason why bacteria doesn't simply grow on sheets of paper or tabletops. It has no nutrient value to them, does not contain all nutrients essential to their life therefore they don't survive on it.

Meanwhile it's a different story in the john, different people are coming and going all the time. Keeps the cycle fresh.

At most I'll wipe the toilet seat off with a wetted paper towel. I wash my hands not worrying about what I touch and leave.

I don't worry about "germs" as much as other people. I'm also sick a lot less than other people.
