Puerto Rico vacation ideas

Has anybody done puerto rico vacations? We're looking to go there for our honeymoon, but not sure where to begin looking. A lot of travel sites appear optimized towards people that know where they're going, but not much for those who have no idea.

We were wondering if early September is a good time to go to Puerto Rico, with hurricanes and all. Also, where would one go - San Juan, or or somewhere else?

Any other things to consider?

There are more beautiful places to go, but PR is cost effective. I love Old Town, personally.

What are you looking for in a vacation?

Looking for some place to relax, preferably a tropical atmosphere. What nicer places did you have in mind?

Have you thought about doing an island-hopping cruise from there? Spend several days exploring San Juan and the nearby area, then board a ship for a 7-day cruise visiting 4-5 islands.

If your looking for Hotels around the action in San Juan your going to want to look towards Isla Verde or Condado... Stay in the El San Juan Hotel or the Condado Plaza, Caribe Hilton or such. You might not want to stay in Old town proper as there is allot of ship traffic through there. If you want to get away from town a little, but still within good driving distance try El Conquistador was very nice(and very new) when I was there.

I was there for 2 years, and I loved the whole time there, I think we had one hurricane go by while I was there, but it wasn't a direct hit, just lots of rain. But hurricane season is a consideration. September is a pretty good month, off season high temperatures, but there never a huge issue with temperatures, the winds seemed to keep everything cool enough.

A few things to check out when you go, old San Juan, El Yunque, the rainforest, Bacardi rum tour, maybe Arecibo Observatory.

Stay on the west of side of the Island.(Opposite of San Juan) I love Rincon especially.(I have a hook up there for a sweet villa PM if intersted)

As far as things to do....eat and drink like kings and enjoy one of the best sunsets in the world. throw in some water sports and your good to go.
